Echoes of Truth

January 7th

Theme: First Person First

We ought to see the face of God every morning before we see the face of man – D L Moody

Many times, we say we want to be close to God and have a better relationship with God. However, our actions do not match our words and wishes. We are like that person who keeps crying for food because she is hungry and when a meal is served, she ignores it and opts for junks. Yes, junks!

There’s so much junk in the Christian faith today. The real meal that is prepared by the breath of God for the nourishing of our souls and the revival of the spirit man, the Word of God is often by-passed.

Almost everyday on various social media platforms, there are daily doses of scriptures like vitamins, pastors giving five-minute word and prayer, the spiritual fast meal joints as grab and go into the day’s business, quick tongues-blasting audio for the ride to work and other daily affairs.

ECHOES OF TRUTH

Not to say these can’t nourish the spirit man but to emphasise that they should be prioritised above that intentional intimate seeking after God, it is no different from junks!

When God is not the first to consume your heart and mind at the break of day and, the One to get the last of your attention at night as you close your eyes, you are simply not that hungry. The truth is you are as close to God as you wish to be.

David was so desperate in Psalm 51 when he realised his sin and how he had failed God. His utmost cry was ‘cast me not away from Your Presence, don’t take away Your Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation…’ He could cry desperately because He has come to have just one desire in life and that he passionately pursued. Psalm 27:4 revealed that His one desire was to always be in God’s presence, beholding Him, all the days of his life. He also said in Psalm 16: 8 that he has set the Lord always before him…

What have you always set before you? Your phone? What is that one desire of yours? Your pastor’s sermons? Do you care if God casts you away from His presence? But not your business, job, career, ambitions, passion, ‘purpose’, social media and other things that pleases self!

One of the easy pointers of what we actually want is to examine what we do as soon as we wake up. Do you pray first or reach for your phone?
In this digital age, we have begun to rely on prayer clips by men of God more than praying to God ourselves.

God’s promise to us is that ‘and you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.’ (Jer 29:13). The criterion to see God is to do it with all your heart.

Everyday of our lives, we either choose our will or the will of God and the determinant of that is what we do first and foremost in the morning.

To keep the fire burning, ensure that you spend time with the Lord every morning before starting the day. Be a practical example of Job 5:8 ‘But as for me, I would seek God, and to God I would commit my cause’

God is willing to speak to us, He answers much but we need to be ready to receive from Him. Give yourself to seeking God at the start of your day and consciously as the day progresses, you will definitely notice a change in your spiritual life.

God does not lie. His words are true.

Let Us Pray:

Abba, I thank You for another time in Your word today. We pray that You will help us to seek You  with all our heart. May we seek Your face daily and not what You can do for us. Plant Your love in our hearts and help us to esteem You above everything and everyone. May we come to You first before seeing men in Jesus name we pray. Amen
