Theme: The One True Treasure

The man who has God for his treasure has all things in One. — A.W. Tozer

How do you measure true wealth? Or, may I say with what do you measure true wealth? Fleet of cars? Number of houses? International recognitions? Certificates? Vacation to the Bahamas? Far from it! True wealth is not measured in what we possess or accomplish.

If as a believer and follower of Jesus we still measure wealth by means of materialism, human and worldly attainments, we should check again if we have known Christ at all. Jesus is very clear on this matter as recorded in Luke 12:15, ‘Watch out! Guard yourselves against every form of greed, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.’ Often times, we are too conscious of gathering earthly treasures than laying up eternal treasures.

We must learn from David, from Paul and from our Lord Jesus Christ, to understand and live in the reality that true contentment in life is found only when we have discovered the one true treasure, God. David said in Psalm 16:5-6, ‘Lord, you are my portion and my cup of blessing; you hold my future. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.’

Paul also declared in 2 Corinthians 12:9b-10, ‘…Therefore, I will most gladly boast all the more about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may reside in me. So I take pleasure in weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and in difficulties, for the sake of Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.’

ECHOES OF TRUTH

Jesus said in John 16:32, ‘Indeed, an hour is coming, and has come, when each of you will be scattered to his own home, and you will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.’
When God becomes the supreme treasure of our heart, the One in whom we find satisfaction and contentment whether in the good or the bad, we stay peaceful because we lack nothing else (Matt 6:33). This is because we have come to live out absolute dependence on God!

When we settle this in our heart, we have settled contentment and godliness in us becomes great gain indeed (1 Timothy 6:6). Even in trial, our soul is full. Our hearts stop striving endlessly for fulfillment in temporary things because all that which is truly valuable flows from the One who satisfies us with Himself just as He promised, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to Me shall not hunger” (John 6:35).

This perspective transforms our daily life. Decisions, priorities, and relationships are now guided by this understanding. When God is treasured, our decisions, priorities, desires, pursuits, even relationships, will align without struggle. The fruit of righteousness, godliness, which is holiness gradually comes naturally (Hebrews 12:10-11).
So, again I ask, what do you measure true wealth by? Fleeting material things? Or the one true and eternal Treasure (God).

Let Us Pray:

Lord, we thank You because we have a true treasure in You. Only You can satisfy. Teach us to find our joy and contentment in You alone. Teach us to treasure You as David did. Even when life feels uncertain or threatening, help us to see that You are the only Treasure that can suffice. Let every desire, every choice, and every pursuit flow from the knowledge that in You, we have all things. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
