YES, PRAY STUPID PRAYERS!
YES, PRAY STUPID PRAYERS!

YES, PRAY STUPID PRAYERS!

You see, in my life, I thank God because I learned to pray stupid prayers very early in life. The kind that people might roll their eyes at. The ones that sound childish, unnecessary, or too detailed.

Lord, what clothes should I wear today?

Father, would you want me to read this book at all?

Father, would it be Your will for me to attend that programme or stay back?

ECHOES OF TRUTH

My God, help me to look a little more beautiful today.

Precious Lord, please help me not to have mood swings with my friends.

Daddy, my legs are not beautiful anymore. They look kind of wrinkled, please smoothen them for me. Teach me how to do that.

Lord, should I buy a gift for that friend, or not?

Those are the kinds of prayers the Lord loves. That’s what “Pray without ceasing” means (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Carry Me along in everything!

Lord, I’m not happy that my friend spoke to me that way.

Father, I’m sorry I got angry. Deliver me from anger.

Lord, should I buy this thing or save my money?

Father, should I give this gift or wait for another time?

Lord, I want to bless that person. Please confirm it in my spirit.

Father, I’m about to post this online. Do You want me to post it?

Lord, please help me to enjoy a good time with You today.

Holy Spirit, do You like this picture or should I change it?

Lord, I’m about to correct someone. Please help me do it with grace. Or should I keep quiet?

Father, my cream is almost finished. Please provide another.

Lord, this transport fare is getting high. Please make a way.

Lord, I don’t know what to cook. Show me something simple.

Jesus, please help this money stretch till the end of the week.

These are the simple, continuous whispers of a child who is learning or has learned dependence. You don’t always have to speak them out loud. Your spirit just stays in tune, talking, listening, breathing prayer.

And no, you’re not doing this by your own strength. The Holy Spirit is your generator. He powers you from within. The more you pray these ‘stupid’ prayers, the more sensitive you become to Him. Soon you’ll begin to hear God. You’ll start depending on Him naturally. That’s what it means to become truly spiritual.

Total dependence!

God never designed man to function by our own reasoning. He never created us to figure life out by ourselves. He made us to live dependent. To walk as He leads in every detail.

So yes, even in the little things, involve Him.

Holy Spirit, please make this food delicious.

Should I add more Maggi or salt, or leave it this way?

Lord, I’m tired. Please give me energy to clean joyfully.

Jesus, please let my family enjoy this meal with peace.

Lord, please preserve this soup. Let it not spoil before tomorrow.

Should I make yam and eggs or rice and boiled eggs?

Should I help that person today?

My Father is glad at those prayers because that’s fellowship. That’s intimacy.

And you see, when I say pray stupid prayers, I don’t mean talk and walk away. Prayer is not a one-way conversation. Prayer is communion.

When I talk to the Lord about anything:

Lord, what’s on Your mind today?

Holy Spirit, how are You doing?

Father, share a little of Your heart with me.

Jesus, is there someone You want me to pray for right now?

Lord, what do You want me to study today?

Holy Spirit, sit with me. Teach me to listen.

Should I wear this? Should I call her? Should I buy that?

YES, PRAY STUPID PRAYERS!
YES, PRAY STUPID PRAYERS!

I pause to listen. Because prayer is two-sided. You speak, then you stay still. You might not hear immediately. You might not perceive anything the first or second time. But if you keep at it, God will begin to trust you with His signals.

This is how you learn to hear God.

If you can’t hear Him in the small, daily things, you’ll miss Him in the big, life-changing ones. You can’t expect divine direction in destiny matters when you’ve not trained your spirit in everyday companionship.

So start small. Talk to Him about your day like you would talk to your friend or your spouse.

Father, this is how my day went.

Lord, I felt hurt when she said that.

Jesus, I was weak today.

Then pause. Wait. Don’t rush away. Ask Him, Do You have anything to say to me? And He will. Sometimes not in words but in peace, a pull, a thought, a verse, a burden, or a silence that speaks volumes.

When you keep doing this, soon He will start sharing His own heart with you. You’ll begin to sense what He feels about situations, people, and even nations. He will begin to drop burdens in your spirit. Divine weights that stir you to intercede.

And that’s when real prayer begins. Because you can’t pray heaven-shaking prayers without a burden, my sister. A woman cannot push without the pain of travail. Travailing must come before birthing.

“As soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children.” (Isaiah 66:8)

This is why praying in the Spirit is so vital. When you pray in tongues, you generate spiritual energy. You power your inner man. You stay connected to heaven’s frequency. Whether you’re walking, driving, or cooking, you’re charging your spirit. And when your spirit is charged, you can pick signals, divine impulses, with ease.

But when the flesh is heavy, the ears of your heart are deaf. God can be shouting, yet you’ll hear nothing. You’ll mistake strange voices for His.

So the more you subdue the flesh, the clearer the signals become. The more you pray, the more you discern. The more you stay in fellowship, the easier it is to live led.

So yes, keep praying those stupid, babyish prayers. Have those funny conversations with God. They are foolish to men but precious to Him. For Scripture says, “God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise.” (1 Corinthians 1:27)

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.” (Matthew 5:3)

And I hope you know that the Kingdom of Heaven here is not only talking about Heaven after death. Not just that. It begins here.

When Jesus said, “If I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the Kingdom of God has come unto you,” (Matthew 12:28) He meant now. The Kingdom of God is inside you.

“The Kingdom of God is within you.” (Luke 17:21)

The Holy Spirit is inside you. God is inside you. The Kingdom of God is yours if you have the Holy Spirit. God Himself is yours. The whole Kingdom of Heaven is yours.

Jesus said that “He and His Father will come and make their abode in you.” (John 14:23) They will dwell in you. They will manifest themselves to you. How? Through the Holy Spirit. So you have everything. Every single thing.

My sister, pray stupid prayers. In every single thing about your marriage, your relationship with God, with man, your dressing, your needs, your cares in everything you feel, in everything you feel about your children, pray. Continue to ask for grace.

When you envy, when you are jealous, when you sounded rude, when you struggle, just always say it to your Father. And then, yield to every instruction He gives you. If He tells you to apologize, quickly apologize. If He tells you not to take that extra cake because you are watching your weight, obey.

Everything that seems little, listen to Him. Don’t watch that movie. Don’t watch it. Take your Bible and study. Obey.

Don’t say, Oh no, I just want to relax.

Obey. Obey immediately. Delayed obedience is disobedience.

That is one of the secrets of getting the best from God:

Obedience!

It is in these little obediences that greater dimensions open.

“To him that has, more will be given.” (Matthew 13:12)

To him that has means the one who hears and obeys. The one who acts on the word. It has become his. Then more will be given to him.

“But to him that does not have, even what he has will be taken away.” (Luke 8:18)

What does this mean? This person received, but it never became his own. He heard, but he did not obey. He did not digest it. It never became life to him. It never entered his system. So it is taken away.

Do you understand, sis?

It is obedience that multiplies revelation. It is obedience that keeps the fire burning.

Pray ‘stupid’ prayers, sis. Live in fellowship. Listen more. Obey quickly. Stay yielded. And you will see what it means for the Kingdom of Heaven to live within you. May we do the Will of the Lord in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Dear Lord, please help me to yield, I want to yield to you, Lord. I love you, but I still find myself disobeying you, realizing afterwards, I feel wretched and awkward, help me, Lord, pls help me.🙏

    Wow!
This provides answers to some of the questions in my mind.
    The article is pragmatic.
    Thank you, BUD family.

This is so timely. I do pray the childish prayers too and that is the way I have been relating with God. I got light from the explanation and Scripture references you pointed out on obedience. Oh that we will yield totally to God by acting promptly to His word and leading. Amen
