Minister on Fire

Minister on Fire

Echoes of Truth

January 4th

Theme: Keeping The Fire Burning

‘He makes His ministers a flame of fire. Am I ignitable? God deliver me from the dread asbestos of other things’’– Elisabeth Elliot

God sought to deliver the children of Israel from their enemy led by Sisera. God delivered a prophecy through Prophetess Deborah to Barak. God wanted to use Barak to minister His deliverance to Israel. Alas, Barak has the dread of fear and doubt. Barak lost that chance and the honour God extended to him.

Barak was meant to ignite God’s fiery wrath upon King Jabin of Canaan. He was meant to be that ministering fire that will unleash God’s judgement upon the enemies of God’s people.

ECHOES OF TRUTH

But there was another minister, not equipped to fight wars but equipped with fire to burn at the Lord’s command. Jael was the other minister, equipped with a glass of refreshing milk, a tent peg, and a hammer. That was what sealed the deliverance of Israel.

Jael points out to us that so long we are available and at God’s beck and call, His fire can consume us to be His light shining brightly whether at the warfront or inside a tent. In this walk with God, no man is indispensable, neither does He have favourites. Still, to God, when He equips a minister as a flame of fire, that minister must have forsaken anything that is of no use to the One who calls to serve. Such persons are not busy with other businesses that will hinder them from burning when they need to burn for God’s course.

God desires to light us up and keep us aflame (Matt. 5:14-16); however, to become flames of fire, we must get rid of the leaven of sin, hypocrisy, pride, prayerlessness and disobedience (Luke 12:1). All these are rooted in the desire to keep self alive  and embrace it when Christ charges that we must deny it, let it die, daily.

Be filled with the Holy Spirit (Eph 5:18), Pray always (1 Thess 5:17), Walk in sincerity and truth (1 Cor 5:8), Give yourself to the word of God (2 Cor 3:18) and always remember that it is the Lord who works through you, so never become self-dependent (Phil 2:13).

Renew your surrender on the altar. Stir yourself up in the Holy Spirit, and you will burn brightly!

Let Us Pray:

Abba Father, I thank You for choosing to make me burn brightly for You. Help me to hate sin, pride, disobedience, hypocrisy and prayerlessness. I want to burn for You Lord. Set me on fire for You. Keep me burning for You until You come in Jesus name. Amen
