Choose for me, Lord: As a young waiting lady, there were many moments when I went looking for songs that could walk the journey with me. Songs that understood waiting. Songs that knew what it meant to trust God quietly and faithfully. I needed guidance for my university education, for what course to study, where to read, what books to pick up, the roommates I’d dwell with, what steps to take, who to marry etc. I knew I needed God’s direction for life itself.

In those days, the songs that spoke that language were mostly old hymns and older worship songs. It was so impossible for me to find contemporary songs that talked about simple obedience, patience, restraint, and trusting God’s Will and choice without rushing ahead of Him. I did not have the luxury of many options.

So sometimes, I formed simple songs myself in prayers. Other times, I returned again and again to the old songs God had led me to. Those songs truly walked with me. They walked with me in seasons of waiting, in decision making, and yes, very deeply in the area of marriage. They gave words to prayers I did not always know how to pray.

And even now, in marriage, the need for leading has not reduced. If anything, there are even more decisions to make. Almost every single day comes with choices that require wisdom, patience, and hearing God clearly. Leading does not end. It never has. Abraham was led. Moses was led. Their journeys were not centred on one season of life. Leading is meant to continue for a lifetime.

In moments like these, what you need is accompaniment. You need something that walks with you. Something that strengthens you. Something that helps push that prayer out of your mouth when words feel heavy. That is where this song was born.

Choose for Me, Lord is a prayer song. It is a simple, sincere cry of surrender. It is the kind of song you return to when you are waiting, when you are unsure, when you know that your own wisdom is not enough. It is a song that says, “Father, You lead. I will follow.”
