Theme: True Love Revealed
God’s love is not something God has; it is something God is. — A.W. Tozer

The world’s view and definition of love has tainted its Biblical interpretation, The laws were delivered to the children of Israel with the evident mark of God’s love for them.
Exodus 34:6 and Deuteronomy 7:9 establishes that God has a covenant of love with Israel that is faithful and abounding. This establishes that God’s love was not built on emotions and mere feelings.
God’s display of love towards Israel under the law was clearly a matter of His personal choice. God chose Israel as the object of His love even with all their continued waywardness. It was His great love that did not allow them to be consumed (Lamentations 3:22-23) and He chose to heal their waywardness because He chose to love (Hosea 14:4).
The New Testament tells us why. It is because the love of God is not a separate item from the realities of God. The Scripture does not present love as a tool in God’s hand. It reveals love as the very fabric of His being for God is love! (1 John 4:8). It is beyond God showing love or God practices love, not even “God values love.”
It means if you are looking for love, find God because He is love. This makes love more than an action verb but a Person.
God as love thus transcends awaiting a cause for it to be effected; neither is it dependent on worthiness. Love starts and ends with God because He is love.
When Jesus said that His disciples be made one as They are One in John 17: 11, 21-22, He was highlighting a reality of unity fueled by the existence of what was before all else is, before man breathed his first breath, before humanity fell, before redemption was planned. It is God’s existence as love. It is this love that keeps the Father, Son, and Spirit in eternal fellowship.
The holiness of God makes love an expression of His holiness. God’s love extended to man is the invitation to partake of His holiness. To respond to God’s love is to walk in His holiness. The fallen self cannot respond appropriately to the love of God hence the need for the cross, for calvary. At Calvary, we do not see our imperfections and shortcomings to experience God through the expression of His love.
Calvary is the utmost height of God’s expression of His love and the longing to have humanity partake of His Holiness. Romans 5:8 says “God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” If love were merely something God possessed, He could have set it aside when faced with rebellion. However, since love is who He is, redemption became a heavy price He was willing to pay.
To reject God is to reject the very essence of love. To know Him deeply is to be transformed by the love that defines Him. When you confess God’s love for you, remember it is not determined by earthly seasons; it is eternal.

Let Us Pray:
Father, I have come to realize that You are Love itself. Forgive me for every time I have doubted who You are. Abba, root me deeply in Your unchanging nature. Help me to truly know You as the Love You truly are. Help me to know Your heart and Your ways. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
