JUNE 9TH: FASTING FOR HIS PRESENCE
ECHOES OF TRUTH 2026
THEME: GETTING SET FOR THE SHOWERS
“True prayer is fellowship with God, not a shopping list of requests.” – The BUD Family

We have all been there!
A major fasting or prayer season like Juicy July approaches, and our immediate instinct is to grab a pen and paper. We start drafting our list: the breakthroughs we desperately need, the open doors we are knocking on, the silent burdens we want lifted.
Having a list isn’t the problem. God cares about the details of your life and you should have a list. The danger arises when the list becomes the entire point of the altar.
When we approach a fast focused solely on our demands, we inadvertently treat God like a magical vending machine. We put in our fasting hours, press the buttons of our requests, and expect the blessings to drop down. We become consumed with tracking His presents rather than seeking His Presence.
But, my dear sisters, fasting was not designed to be a hunger strike to force God’s hand. It is a holy clearing of the noise.
It is a deliberate humbling of our flesh for one singular, breathtaking purpose: to see God!
We must never think of prayer as just another spiritual activity because it is more than that. God did not design prayer just so man can have a term to call and engage in spiritual gymnastics.
From the very beginning, when man was made, prayer was made too. It is heaven’s avenue- God’s open line for man to reach Him any time and He to reach man.
It is a spiritual space that immediately invited God’s presence.
Genesis 3:8-10 reveals the positionality of prayer in the God-man relationship. In Genesis 3:8,
‘And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God…’
Four things stand out to help us understand what true prayer is here.
First, true prayer is the means by which to ‘hear the voice of the Lord’.
When we turn into prayer in privacy or in the gathering of God’s people, it is meant to usher us into the opening of our ears to hear the voice of the Lord and to hear Him speak.
Genesis chapter one has revealed that daily, God has something to say. On Day 1, He said something. same on Day 2 etc. It is in the atmosphere of true prayers that we position ourselves to hear what God has to say for each day.
Second, true prayer invites God to walk amongst men.
The Scripture says: “…the Lord God walking in the garden…” The garden was a place specifically made for man to dwell in, but God designed prayer to be an open portal between heaven and earth, allowing Him to be ushered into man’s space and world.
You see, God is not just looking to speak to man from His throne; He wants to walk with man in his own world!
Third, true prayer is the exclusive alone time between God and man, as seen in the phrase, “…in the cool of the day…”.
Adam and Eve were expected to be busy tending the garden from morning until evening, so God expected them to intentionally set aside time for Him in the cool of the evening, where they could clearly hear Him and see Him walking in their garden.
Prayer is what demarcates God’s time away from the other businesses of our day. This is not about giving Him ten percent of our twenty-four hours alone but maintaining an awareness of God that is never far-off throughout the entire twenty-four hours.
It is the positioning of the heart to experience stillness and quietness away from daily demands, allowing us to hear and see God walk in the cool of our lives.
Lastly, true prayer is entering the presence of God. The verse says, “and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God…”.
In other words, when we pray, we are being ushered directly before God, into His presence and before His glory.
Adam and Eve hid themselves because they noticed they were without covering, and God’s presence is holy. The sacredness of prayer, contrasted with their own sudden unworthiness, caused them to hide away in the garden. With the filthiness of their minds and the nakedness of their bodies, they felt unworthy to let their spirits partake of God’s Holy presence.
This reveals the inherent unworthiness we face when approaching the place of prayer as offspring of the first Adam. But Jesus Christ has reclaimed this access for us, so that we may now come boldly to the throne of grace to obtain mercy and find grace to help in our time of need (Hebrews 4:16).
The following verses then reveal the two-way communication process of prayer, where God speaks to man and man responds to God.

Verses 9-10 also reveal that prayer is a place where we hide nothing from God, but instead become plain, naked, and completely humbled, just as Adam and Eve ultimately had to be.
All of this makes it clear that the place of prayer is where God forges man’s relationship with Himself. It is the God-ordained avenue for man to know Him and for us to increase in oneness with Him.
The more we engage in prayer, the more easily we find ourselves relinquishing our rights to self and turning them over to God, allowing Him to be in full charge of our lives.
If this is the true case and reality of prayer, why then are we more concerned with a list of requests to tender before God’s throne through the prayer portal?
Why does it seem like our requests are more important to us than seeing and hearing God; having Him walk in our space, and receiving His specific Word for us each day?
What truly matters in our careers, finances, and other personal troubles or plans when compared to the weight of God’s glory that awaits us the moment we open up the portal of prayer?
The simple answer is that we either do not understand the spiritual functionality of prayer or we are downright selfish and the Holy Spirit has not had room to deal with our lives.
Also read: LISTS, BUT NO LOVE
Eve was easily deceived because she did not see the worth of being able to grow intimacy with God and having fellowship with Him.
Adam fell because like Eve, fellowship with God was not much to be desired like the forbidden fruit.
They just did not love fellowship with the Lord!
We must be very careful!
The moment we are more concerned with what God can do for us, what we can gain, what our lot is in the place of prayer, at such instances, we are setting ourselves up for falling repeatedly into the serpent’s deception.
He knows we are not interested in God, it is more about what we can gain, hence, he offers us that and subtly lures us off the trail of dependency on God.
We must seek to grow in the Lord such that when we find ourselves before the portal of prayer to usher us into God’s presence, we have no list in our hands as we open that door. Not because we don’t have things we can ask for but because it does not matter in comparison to the glorious access opened before us.
This Juicy July, can we work on this?
As you prepare your heart for Juicy July, take a moment to look closely at your focus. If you enter this season only wanting what is in His hands, you will miss the beauty of His face.
Ask yourself this question:
If God answered every single request on your list this July but withheld an encounter with Himself, would you be satisfied?
Conversely, if He asked you to wait on the answers but gave you a life-altering, intimate revelation of who He is, would that be enough?
Let your primary prayer this season shift from “Lord, do this for me” to “Lord, show me Your face.” Let the requests sit in the background while fellowship takes the front seat.
The paradox of the Kingdom is that when you stop chasing the hands of God and start chasing His heart, you realize that His presence is the ultimate breakthrough you were looking for all along.
Let Us Pray
Dear Father, please forgive me for every way and every time I have trivialized prayer’s power in building a lasting, real relationship with You. I repent of my error this day. I ask for the grace to grow in love with You, where true intimacy and fellowship with the Holy Spirit become far more important to me than any demand I could ever make in the place of prayer.
May my heart be laden with a deep hunger to tarry in Your presence. Divine Holy Spirit, each time I come to pray, please brood over me. Let the Word be made life within me, refining me as I pray so that I may truly look and act like Jesus in my daily life.
For this upcoming Juicy July, help me to have a completely different experience of prayer with You. May I be truly blessed and transformed by You, right there in Your presence.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

No wonder the Scripture says ‘But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you ‘
Dear God, continually grant me the understanding that Your presence is the ultimate breakthrough I need, work on my heart daily to understand that my requests are secondary in my walk with You. Continue to reveal Yourself to me and cause me to experience You in different dimensions, Amen.
This is a deep revelation from God to me this morning, ahhh!
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Lord have mercy on my selfishness 😭😭😭. Give me the heart that pants after you. To see you and hear you each day. To dwell in your presence Lord.
Show me your face Lord and let my satisfaction rest only in the revelation of your glory to me.
