BUILDING MY FAITH THROUGH THE WORD AND PRAYER

By: Oladejo Oluwatoosin

Faith is the bedrock of our walk with God. Hebrews 11 gives us several examples of people who walked with God by faith. Verse 6 of that chapter goes on to tell us that without faith, it is impossible to please God. The ultimate purpose of our lives is to please God (Rev 4:11) and that’s why we must pay attention to building up ourselves in our most holy faith.

What does that mean? It means that you have to build up your convictions about God–His person, His will, His ways, His ability–everything about Him. It means that you have to grow in faith. The truth is that on this journey, the devil will tell you lies, you’ll hear strange doctrines and you’ll go through certain experiences that may question your faith. If your faith is not well built, you may fall by the way.

Two powerful ways to build your faith are through:

ย 1. The Scriptures:

THE BUD FAMILY INTERNATIONAL

The word of God is a powerful tool for believers to build up our faith. Romans 10:17 tells us that “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God”. Dear sister, it’s time to read scriptures, memorise them, meditate on and study them. It’s time to listen to sound teachers of the undiluted word of God. As you do these consistently, our convictions in God become solidified and our faith is being built up.

ย 2. Prayer:

Prayer is an indispensable tool for building your faith. This year, you must be more intentional about praying in understanding and praying in tongues-. In addition, you need to pray with scriptures regularly. It’s difficult to pray outside God’s will when you do this. And 1 John 5:14 tells us that, โ€œ…If we ask anything according to His will, He hears usโ€. I’d like to mention here that when praying with scriptures, we need to be careful of going out of context. Pray based on your understanding of God’s word (guided by the Holy Spirit) and not your personal interpretation or desires, and you’ll see amazing results.

ROUNDING OFF

Dear sister, if we pay attention to soaking ourselves in scriptures and persisting in prayers this year, we’ll experience our faithโ€™s growth in leaps and bounds. If you’ve been struggling with inconsistency in the word and prayer, I urge you to look away from your strength and will while looking to God for His grace, the Holy Spirit, and you’ll see how far God will take you in your walk with Him.
