We thank God for how far He has brought us in this juicy July program. Indeed, He has indeed been the one that has helped thus far.

Today, we will be knocking on Heaven’s door for strength.

Strength can simply be defined as the quality or state of being strong. And it is when one is strong that one can withstand so many things and also accomplish many things .

There are two dimensions of strength.

1) The Physical Strength:

Our physical strength depends solely on foods we eat, the environment we live in and what we do generally. One can’t expect someone that feeds poorly to have the same strength with the one who feeds healthily.

2) The Spiritual Strength.

Our Spiritual strength also depends on what we feed on, where we live and what we do.

A Christian who prays and feeds daily, regularly and constantly on God’s Word will have more strength than the one who doesn’t.

A Christian who lives with or surrounds himself/herself with the like minded and fiery Christians will also be strengthened the more by their faith and fellowshipping together.

The Christian race cannot be run in the strength of the flesh (physical strength) but with the spiritual strength. The Bible clearly states that by strength no man can prevail before God (1 Samuel 2:9). That shows how useless our physical strength is in our spiritual work.

The Bible also says in Isaiah 49:31 that “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not fail”

*This means that once one is strengthened, such a one will be able to walk, run and fly as much as possible.*

And the same verse made us to know that only those that wait upon the Lord shall be strengthened.

How do we wait upon the Lord?

• Through prayer

• Through the study of the Word of God.

• Through fellowshipping with other believers.

From our text for today, we saw how even Elijah was tired and weak.

He was scared for his life and he tried to run away from danger.

However, his physical strength could not carry him anywhere.

He had only ran for one day and could no longer carry on.

What happened next?

An angel of God came to feed him and verse 8 made us to know that he went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty night.

The journey was so great for him and what he needed was to spiritual strength.

We also need strength from above.

When we are weak, we won’t go far.

WHY DO WE EVEN NEED SPIRITUAL STRENGTH?

√ We need strength to pray.

√ We need strength to resist the devil.

√ We need divine strength that will help us overcome all temptations.

√ We need strength that will make us remain unshakable in our faith.

√ We need strength so as not go nor grow weary.

√ We are on a race, we need the strength of God to finish well.

However, there are so many Christians who have once been strengthened but are now weak. There are some Christians who have always been weak and had been striving to be strong.

This is because there are many things that saps spiritual strength.

Some of the things that saps spiritual strength include:

1) SIN

Samson was a man of great strength but immediately he fell into sin with Delilah, he lost his strength.

“And she said unto him, How canst thou say, I love thee, when thine heart is not with me? thou hast mocked me these three times, and hast not told me wherein *thy great strength lieth*.And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, *and his strength* went from him. ” – Judges 15:16,19

*Sin saps spiritual strength.*

We must constantly endeavour to avoid sin at all times.

2) LAZINESS

When a Christian is lazy and idle, such a one won’t engage in the necessary spiritual exercises that will make him/her strengthened.

“By much slothfulness, the building decays; and through idleness of the hands, the house drops through” – Ecclesiastes 10:18

3) DOUBT AND FEAR

Doubt and Fear are weapons Satan uses in weakening a Christian.

“And he said unto Jether his firstborn, Up, and slay them. But the youth drew not his sword: for he feared, because he was yet a youth.” – Judges 8:20

Many a times, some Christian lose their spiritual strength simply because they are scared and doubt the work of God in their lives.

4) PRAYERLESSNESS

A prayerless Christian will definitely be a powerless Christian. We get power and strength in the place of prayers. Prayer empowers.

Daniel understood the importance of prayers and never joked with it even in the face of persecution.

4) WRONG ASSOCIATION, FRIENDSHIP OR RELATIONSHIP

When a Christian begins to move with wrong people that have contrary belief from what he/she has, such a one will begin to drift. Those wrong people will begin to feed the person with spiritual junks. The person will begin to have less time with God.

The relationship Samson had with Delilah was what made him lost his strength.

As Christian, we need to be careful of all our associations, relationships and friendships.

5) IRREGULAR STUDYING OF THE WORD OF GOD

When God told Joshua to be strong and of good courage in Joshua 1:6 & 7, the next thing He told him in verse 8 was that he should ensure to constantly meditate on the book of the law.

“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” – Joshua 1:8

The Word of God is indeed filled with strength.

To be strong, we must feed on the Word of God.

Before you launch into the prayers, I will like to implore you to take some time to examine yourself well.

Are you still strong spiritually enough?

Are you growing daily in spiritual strength?

What are those things that have likely been sapping your spiritual strength?

I WILL WANT YOU TO SING THIS SECOND AND THE LAST SONG FOR TODAY WITH ALL YOUR HEART, MIND, SPIRIT, SOUL AND BODY!
