ABOUT THE WIHS DISCIPLESHIP COURSE

THE BUD FAMILY

01

Introduction

The WIHS Discipleship Course has become a compulsory prerequisite for anyone interested in joining The BUD Family Africa, The Dynamite Wives Family, and The Dynamite Girls Family. This course ensures that those who will be feasting on biblical teachings in each respective family understand the cost of discipleship before enlisting.

As Jesus said in Luke 14:31, “Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand?”

Jesus was emphasizing the importance of quality over quantity. It is better to have a small group of well-prepared and committed followers than a large number who are not equipped to handle adversity.

02

What this means to us:

In our context, this means it is dangerous to have a large group of people who are not prepared to stand up against the challenges of this age—whether it be in relation to womanhood, modesty, prayer, or marriage. True discipleship sharpens us and makes us ready to face the enemies at the gate, no matter how many they are.

This is why the WIHS Discipleship Course is so important. It ensures that each sister understands the cost their Master asks for and is prepared to stand firm in their faith. Before joining our families, it is imperative that sisters are equipped with the least knowledge needed to handle the spiritual battles they will face, just as a king prepares his soldiers for war.

Why Discipleship Matters

Jesus emphasized the importance of discipleship in Luke 14:27-28: “And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?”

This scriptural foundation forms the basis of our approach to discipleship, ensuring that members are fully prepared for the spiritual journey ahead. Discipleship is not just about learning biblical teachings; it’s about now receiving the Power to live the life of Christ.

By stepping into discipleship, we build a strong foundation for our spiritual lives, equipping ourselves to stand firm against anything life might throw at us. It ensures we are not just followers in name, but dedicated and prepared servants of Christ, ready to fulfill His will with steadfast hearts.

Misconceptions about Discipleship

Discipleship is only for church workers.

Reality: Discipleship is not just a course to prepare you for being a worker at your church. While it may equip you with valuable skills and knowledge for church work, its primary purpose is to shape you into a faithful follower of Jesus in every aspect of your life.

Discipleship is only for new converts.

Reality: Discipleship is not just for new converts but for all Christians, regardless of how long they have been believers. It is a lifelong journey that continues until we die. Every believer needs continual growth and transformation to become more like Christ.

Discipleship is about following a human leader.

Reality: Discipleship is not about following a human leader; it is about following Jesus. He is the true Discipler, and our focus should be on learning from Him and becoming more like Him.

Discipleship is boring.

Reality: Discipleship is far from boring. It is a powerful experience, like a two-edged sword piercing to the division of soul and spirit. It challenges and transforms us, making us ready to face the spiritual battles of life.

Discipleship is about learning doctrines and traditions.

Reality: Discipleship is not about learning doctrines and traditions but about learning Christ. It involves understanding His teachings, embodying His character, and living out His commands in our daily lives.

Discipleship is just about Bible study.

Reality: While studying the Bible is crucial, discipleship also involves practical application, prayer, personal growth, and community involvement. It’s about living out the teachings of Jesus in every aspect of our lives.

Discipleship is optional.

Reality: For those serious about their spiritual lives, discipleship is a fundamental commitment. It’s not an optional extra but a vital part of following Jesus faithfully and wholeheartedly.

Discipleship ends after the course.

Reality: Discipleship is an ongoing process that continues throughout one’s life. It’s not a course you complete but a lifelong journey of growing closer to Christ and becoming more like Him.

You can outgrow discipleship.

Reality: No one can outgrow the need for discipleship. It is a continuous process that remains relevant throughout our entire lives. Therefore, no one should ever consider themselves beyond the need for discipleship.

What Our Present Family Members Say

Hear from some of the sisters who have experienced the power of discipleship.

My understanding of discipleship has been taking a course where you are
exposed to the basics of walking with the Lord. The ones I passed through as a Baptist member were quite useful in my walk with God in the early stage of my salvation. They helped me understand that I am different now that I have chosen to follow Christ. However, now, what I know is what I need to grow deeper in Christ. The understanding that to follow Him is to have Him right at the center of all strings attached to my life, He being at the driver’s seat, leading the course
and direction of my life no matter the cost it may demand. I have a better
perspective to the flesh and why I must crucify it daily if I want to gain Christ.

Adeyoola Ojemola

Discipleship to me before the class was just being a follower of Christ but now I have come to understand that it’s not just following a manual or hiding the guise of being a Christian, it is living
the Christ life, becoming like Him.
Prior to now I don’t engage in discussions of defending your faith, I believe my way of life should do the speaking but I have learnt about how to speak to unbelievers about Christ both with scriptures and without Scriptures.
I am no longer satisfied with the present Christianity that I practice. There is more to being called a child of God and a Christian. The fire in me should burn to a level that I will no longer be able to keep Christ just to myself but speak out loud to the world.

Abidemi Temitope

Almost each day since I began this class, I bless God for giving (Mrs. Yaks) this vision. Of a truth, my life hasn’t been the same since I began…Since I discovered before the class that it’d be for a number of weeks before the Juicy
July programme, I knew it would be something edifying and I had the thoughts that it’d be a teaching process on the Word of God but the light I saw it in wasn’t what I
met! What I got was much more than what I expected.

Oluboyede Victoria

Before this class, I actually thought discipleship was something for new converts. When Mrs. Yaks mentioned that we would have a series of discipleship classes, I thought to myself, “Well, it won’t hurt to rediscover Jesus.” At that point in my life, I was contemplating restarting my Christian journey, feeling confused and frustrated. To me, discipleship seemed like repeating the classes I took when I first committed my life to Jesus. However, my perspective has completely changed now. I see it
differently. I’ve come to realize that discipleship is essential for progressing in my faith. It’s a crucial aspect of following Jesus Christ. You can’t claim to be a Christian and not engage in discipleship training. I now understand that discipleship should be an integral part of my daily life as a Christian. It provides the spiritual nourishment necessary for growth.

Abikoye Rachael

Before the class, discipleship to me was a process of submitting myself to my discipler and following him/her as he follows Christ. My understanding of discipleship now is walking in God’s steps everyday and seeking His will in all my doings. A major lightbulb moment for me for when we looked at Christ centeredness and the
place of asking for God’s will in all we do. I had so many questions (which I asked Mama Yakubu) and I started praying and asking God for His will in my life, I also prayed to cross check all my decisions so far if they align with God’s will for me. Since the course started, I’ve given myself to more prayer, more study and listen to the sermons on discipleship and the flesh. I’m also reading the text recommended for our
study. I also ensure to re-listen to every class for better understanding and clarity. This class has been one of the best things I’ve ever embarked on, to the glory of God.

Grace Adebambo

Woman in His Steps discipleship course has been of great benefit to my life, it exposed my weakness and failures. I am challenged to be the best version of me for God, daily
deny self, devote my all to God, prove my love to Him, obey His word promptly and live the Christ-centered life. As I have learnt that discipleship is a continuous process, I promise to commit myself to grow in it, give myself to listening to messages that will aid my spiritual growth and also
be intentional in denying self daily and spending time to learn at the Master’s feet. I’m really grateful for the privilege to be part of this discipleship course. I may not be there yet but surely I know the efforts and prayers invested in this course will not be in
vain over my life. I will be who God wants me to be by God’s grace.
