What Happened to Easter? From Cross to Eggs and Bunny?

What Happened to Easter? Have you ever wondered?

This Easter, I want you to pay attention, dear sis.

Intentionally.

Look at the flyers. Look at the store displays. Look at what is being pushed online. Look at what is being marketed as “Easter.”

ECHOES OF TRUTH

And ask yourself one simple question:

Where is the cross?

Because if you look closely, you will begin to notice something very very unsettling. The dominant emblem of Easter today is no longer the cross. It is the egg!

Bright. Attractive. Harmless. Inclusive.

But completely disconnected from the message it claims to represent.

Pay Attention to Easter, Christian!

One of the most important disciplines a believer must cultivate is: pay attention! Be careful! Be watchful! Take caution!

Pay attention to symbols.

Pay attention to language.

Pay attention to what is being slowly normalized.

This is because shifts do not happen loudly or suddenly. They happen gradually. It is usually a slow fade!

The Bible says, “A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump” (Galatians 5:9).

It starts small. It looks harmless. It feels cultural. Before long, it becomes standard.

And before long, what was once central is no longer even visible.

The Egg Narrative Does Not Hold

Some try to justify it.

They say the egg represents the grave. That just as a chick comes out of an egg, Jesus came out of the grave.

But this comparison falls apart immediately.

Jesus was not “produced” by the grave.

The Scriptures say, “It was not possible that he should be holden of it” (Acts 2:24).

The grave did not give birth to Him.

The grave did not nurture Him.

The grave did not release Him gently.

He conquered it!

The Scriptures say, “O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?” (1 Corinthians 15:55).

That is not the language of emergence. That is the language of victory.

So to reduce the resurrection to a soft, symbolic “hatching” is not just inaccurate, it strips the power from what truly happened.

Removing the Offense of the Cross

No, let me tell you the reason why the cross is being slowly stripped off this solemn event.

The cross is not a comfortable symbol!

It speaks of sin.

It speaks of judgment.

It speaks of sacrifice.

The Bible says, “the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness” (1 Corinthians 1:18).

And because of this, there is always a quiet attempt to replace it with something softer.

Something more acceptable. Something that does not confront.

The egg does that perfectly!

It carries no offense.

It requires no repentance.

It demands nothing.

It allows everyone to participate without dealing with Truth!

And Then Came the Easter Bunny!

If the egg was already a stretch, the bunny removes all doubt.

At least with eggs, people attempt an explanation. Weak as it is, they try to connect it to “life” or “resurrection.”

But the bunny?

There is no explanation.

No scripture.

No symbolism rooted in Christ.

No connection to the cross, the grave, or the resurrection.

It comes from something else entirely.

Fertility.

A harmless-looking animal, playful, soft, appealing especially to children. But behind it is a concept that has nothing to do with redemption, nothing to do with salvation, nothing to do with Christ.

And this is where the shift becomes undeniable.

Because now, it is no longer even pretending to point to Jesus.

It has fully replaced Him!

Commercialization of Easter

And hey, commercialization as found its way in already!

You can see it clearly.

Supermarkets filled with chocolate eggs.

Seasonal promotions.

Brands capitalizing on “Easter mood.”

Many of these people have no regard for Christ. No interest in His death. No reverence for His resurrection.

But they can participate now.

Why?

Because Christ has been removed from the center!

The Bible says, “men shall be lovers of their own selves… lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God” (2 Timothy 3:2–4).

And part of that expression is: turning sacred things into profitable seasons!

Even online, you see it.

From Power to Play

Notice the progression.

First, the cross fades.

Then, the egg takes center stage.

Then, the bunny enters.

And suddenly, what was once the most powerful event in human history becomes something light, playful, and marketable.

The Bible says, “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness” (1 Corinthians 1:18).

So instead of confronting the world with the cross, the system replaces it with something the world can easily accept.

Something children can enjoy.

Something businesses can sell.

Something no one will question.

But in doing so, the weight of truth is lost.

A Generation That Never Meets the Cross

This is the real danger.

A child grows up celebrating Easter every year.

They know the eggs.

They know the bunny.

They know the excitement.

But they do not know Christ crucified.

They have never been confronted with sin.

They have never understood sacrifice.

They have never seen the necessity of the cross.

The Scriptures say, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17).

But if the message is replaced, what will they believe?

This Is Why Some Refuse Easter and All Entirely

You begin to understand why some believers distance themselves from celebrations like Easter and Christmas altogether.

In many cases, it is the result of careful observation and a desire to remain as close to Scripture as possible.

It is not because the events themselves are false. The death of Christ and His resurrection are the very foundation of our faith. The Scriptures say, “Christ died for our sins… and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day” (1 Corinthians 15:3–4). No true believer disputes this. These are not optional truths. They are central.

But the concern is not the event. The concern is what has been built around it.

Over time, layers have been added. Traditions have grown. Symbols have been introduced. Practices have developed that the Scriptures never instructed and never modeled.

What began as a remembrance has, in many places, turned into something else entirely, something mixed, something diluted, something that often carries elements that cannot be traced back to the Word of God.

This is where the caution comes in!

The Danger of Making Easter “Inclusive”

There is a growing desire in our time to make everything inclusive.

To shape every message in a way that everyone can receive it comfortably, without resistance, without conviction, without offense.

It sounds kind on the surface, it sounds thoughtful, but when you look closely, you begin to see what it actually requires.

Anything that might offend must be removed.

Anything that might confront must be softened.

Anything that might draw a clear line must be blurred.

And when that process begins, it does not stop halfway.

Christ is gradually removed from the center.

The blood is no longer spoken of.

The cross, which once stood boldly as the symbol of our salvation, is quietly pushed aside. Not because it is untrue, but because it is too weighty, too confronting, too narrow for a world that wants wide acceptance without surrender.

What remains then is something everyone can enjoy. Something light. Something agreeable. Something that allows participation without transformation.

But that is not the gospel!!!!!

Christian, Walk Carefully!

We need to be very careful.

We need to walk carefully.

Children of the Lord, do not lose your heads in these times.

Do not be carried away by what looks harmless, what looks beautiful, what feels innocent.

Especially you, woman.

These things are designed to appeal to you. The soft bunny, gentle, playful, attractive to the senses.

The eggs, colorful, carefully decorated, pleasing to the eye.

They are crafted to draw you in through your sense of beauty, your love for what is tender and lovely, your desire to create something warm for your home and your children.

But in the midst of that, remember Truth.

Remember what is quietly being replaced.

Remember what is being pushed aside without announcement.

The enemy does not always confront directly. The Scriptures say, “And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14). That means not everything that looks harmless is harmless.

Sit down with your children. Speak to them heartily. Tell them what this season is truly about.

In a world that is constantly redefining truth, where nothing is fixed and everything is made to feel flexible, you must establish what is final in your home. The Truth!

Truth is not relative. Truth is not seasonal. Truth is not cultural.

Truth is the word of God!

And in your home, let that truth stand without compromise. Let your children grow up knowing the cross, not just the celebration. Let them understand the weight of what Christ did, not just the excitement of a season.

Be careful, woman. These things do not happen suddenly. They happen slowly. Little by little. Softly. Gradually.

Until one day, what was once clear is no longer even seen.

Walk carefully.

So If You Must Celebrate Easter…

If you choose to acknowledge this season at all, then let there be clarity.

Let there be no confusion about what it represents and what it does not represent.

Do not allow culture to redefine the meaning for you, and do not allow the symbols that have slowly crept in to replace what the Scriptures have already made clear.

The emblem is not the egg. The symbol is not the bunny. These things may be colorful, appealing, and widely accepted, but they do not tell the story that this season is meant to proclaim.

The center is Christ.

The Scriptures say, “Christ our passover is sacrificed for us” (1 Corinthians 5:7).

That is the heart of the message. And the story does not end there.

The angel declared at the tomb, “He is not here: for He is risen, as he said” (Matthew 28:6).

The cross and the empty grave stand together as the testimony of what God has done.

That is the message that must remain clear.

It must not be softened to make it easier for the world to accept.

It must not be replaced by symbols that carry no truth.

It must not be decorated until its weight is lost.

Let Christ remain at the center. Let the cross remain the emblem. And let the resurrection remain the victory we proclaim.

Will He Still Find Faith?

There was a time, growing up, when I would read that searching question in the Scriptures and pause. “When the Son of man cometh, shall He find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8).

It troubled me, but I did not fully understand it.

I would wonder quietly, where is faith going to?

How can faith disappear?

What exactly is the faith that the Scripture is speaking about?

But over the years, watching carefully, observing what is happening both in the world and within the church, that question has become clearer!!!

What we are seeing in the church today is not a loud rejection of faith. It is something more subtle. It is a slow forgetting. A quiet drifting. A gentle replacing of truth with things that feel close enough, but are not the same.

Even within denominations that once held firmly to the truth, you begin to see it. The message is softened. The emphasis is shifted. The weight of truth is reduced. And before long, what remains looks like faith, sounds like faith, but is no longer anchored in what the Scriptures actually say.

This is how faith fades; by dilution!

And this is where you come in, woman.

You are not just a participant. You are a preserver.

As we saw during the Biblical Womanhood Month, your role is not light. It is weighty. In your home, in your conversations, in the way you raise your children, in the things you permit and the things you reject, you are shaping what will be known as truth in that space.

The Scriptures say, “earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints” (Jude 1:3). That word “contend” is not passive. It means to guard, to defend, to hold firmly without letting go.

So the question is not just whether faith will be found on the earth.

The question is whether it will be found in your home.

Will the truth be preserved there?

Will Christ remain at the center there?

Will the next generation rising under your watch know the faith as it was given, or as it has been altered?

This is our assignment. This is our calling.

And we cannot treat it lightly.

May God have mercy on us, and grant us the grace to stand, to guard, and to preserve the faith faithfully. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

    The Cross is the story!!!

Hmm, in my words and actions I’m shaping what will be known as Truth in my space. This can be a very intentional step to take especially when you have people of other religions around you 🥺

Easter is slowly changing truly. I woke up this morning with a burning desire to be in fellowship with believers where the subject of Christ’s death and resurrection will be adequately taught but I couldn’t find any. God help us

Thank God for a video I saw where Apostle Michael Orokpo was narrating what Jesus went through for us on the cross. The story came so fresh and I couldn’t hold the tears and the reality of what Christ went through for my redemption dawned on me.
