Love Makes the Walk Lighter

Love Makes the Walk Lighter

Echoes of Truth

Theme:Love Makes The Walk Lighter

Love is the fuel that runs the Christian life. Where fervent love for the Lord has dried up, our labour for Him will become heavy and burdensome – Zac Poonen

One way to view Jesus’s one on one with Peter after His resurrection is the need to rejuvenate Peter’s love for Him. Jesus asked Peter, ‘Do you love me?’ three separate times (John 21: 15-17). Why? Jesus had seen that Peter had dwindled in His love for Him. At the absence of Jesus from his sight, Peter had begun to find difficulty in keeping his mind and heart on Jesus.

At the very moment he lost hope because of the death of Jesus, Peter could not keep love alive in his heart for Jesus. He lost life, lost faith, lost strength to keep on holding on to the Words of Christ, the revelations, the acts of Christ that he had feasted on for more than three years.

So Jesus asked do you love Me because Jesus knows that love is what keeps faith and hope alive (1 Corinthians 13:13). Love is what makes taking the words of Christ seriously (John 14:15). Love brings us to fixing our gaze on Jesus even when the world is blinging at us for attention. Love makes us set Jesus before us always and not bother with the rewards the world has to offer.

ECHOES OF TRUTH

Jesus was pointing to Peter that if he has sufficient love for Him, He is well equipped to start the Church propagating Christ. Jesus was showing Peter that the foundation of his service to Him was love. He cannot obey Jesus’ commands if He did not have love.

Whatever attempt of Peter to do the will of God would only end in a brutal fall into sin and doing the will of the flesh. Peter will not only lose to the lust of the flesh, the eyes, and the pride of life, he would soon forget he was ever intimate with Christ all because he lost love for Christ.

Many things in our walk with Christ will take perfect shape if only we love Christ enough. We will stop struggling with sin of all kinds if we truly love Christ. We will seek the Lord’s will before we make any decisions because we have come to love Him above ourselves.

The Christian life would be much easier, free of constant falling and rising, if only we had more love for Christ. If there is any prayer that should cross our hearts daily, it should be an increase in love for the Lord. No matter what befalls us, we will still trust and be confident in Christ because we have love for Him deeply rooted in our hearts.

So sister, will you make it your prayer: ‘More love to You, Jesus, in my heart!’
