Echoes of Truth

Theme: For the Faith Once Delivered
Topic: Like Fire in My Bones
Text: “But if I say, ‘I will not mention his word or speak anymore in his name,’ his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot.” — Jeremiah 20:9
A sign you do love the Bible is:
“You cannot sit silent when Scripture is mocked, twisted, or ignored. A holy fire rises within you, a zeal that consumes apathy, for you know dishonor to the Word is dishonor to the Author.”

Like Fire in My Bones
Dear sister, think about this for a moment.
Imagine your father gives a clear instruction. Simple. Direct.
Then you watch people around you twist it.
They change what he said.
They ignore it.
They even laugh about it.
They attributed what He didn’t say to Him.
And you are standing there… his own child.
You are not a stranger, sis.
Not an outsider either.
His own flesh and blood.
Can you truly stand there and say nothing?
Would it sit well with you?
Or will something rise inside you?
No!! It will not be normal for a bonafide child to watch other people drag her Father’s reputation in the mud.
To call him a liar!
To disregard his word and handle them lightly!
If that is how you will feel for your earthly father that you love, what about Your Heavenly Father?
When you love someone deeply, you become protective of their reputation.
This is the heartbeat of the quote for today.
The “fire” that will be reactive in you at the face of this kind of betrayal and disservice to the Word of God is a spiritual barometer of your love for the Lord.
If you truly love and honor the Word, your spirit will react when that Word is compromised, even if an inch.
You will burn with fire when for instance:
1. It is the “Punchline” in Comedies
When the sacred is dragged into the gutter for a cheap laugh, it isn’t just “entertainment” to you; it’s a desecration.
To see the Word portrayed as a punchline or the Author portrayed as a caricature creates a friction in your soul.
You burn because you know the weight of glory that is being treated as something light and trivial.
2. It is Twisted to Condone Sin
There is a specific kind of grief that arises when people use the very Book meant to set us free from sin as a license to remain in it.
When “God is love” is weaponized to bypass “God is holy,” the zeal within you rises to protect the integrity of His character.
You recognize that distorting the Word is a betrayal of the Gospel!
3. It is Ignored in the Church
Perhaps the most painful one is the one lit by apathy within the walls of the “house of God.” itself.
When the pulpit becomes a place for motivational speeches, psychology, or politics, while the Bread of Life is left on the shelf, your spirit hungers and protests.
You burn because you know that a church without the supremacy of the Word is a lighthouse with a broken bulb.
4. It is Sidelined and Gone Against
You feel the heat of zeal when the Word is treated as a “secondary source”, something to be consulted only if it aligns with modern culture, science, or personal feelings.
When the Word says A and the world (or even the leadership) does B, your loyalty is triggered.
You realize that to sideline the Word is to sideline the King Himself!

The Reality of the “Internal Fire”
“But if I say, ‘I will not mention his word or speak anymore in his name,’ his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot.” – Jeremiah 20:9
This is the biblical definition of your experience, you who have come to love and honour the Word.
Jeremiah tried to be quiet. He tried to “fit in” and avoid the conflict that comes with the Truth. But the Word was too heavy, too hot, and too real to be suppressed.
This fire is your evidence, sis.
It proves that you are not a consumer of a religion, but a lover of the Truth.
It is a sign that the Holy Spirit has written the Law not on tablets of stone, but on the living tablets of your heart!
When the world tries to erase what God has written, your heart naturally generates the heat of resistance.
Do you remember the moment Christ entered the temple and saw it turned into a marketplace?
He didn’t shrug his shoulders.
John 2:17 tells us:
“Zeal for your house will consume me.”
If we claim to be followers of the Word made flesh, our hearts should beat in sync with His.
When Scripture is twisted to fit a trend, used in comedies and skits unworthily or ignored to avoid discomfort, that “rising fire” within you is a sign of spiritual life.
It is the Holy Spirit testifying that the Word is not just ink on paper; it is Life itself.
To sit silent when the Word is dishonored is to allow a shadow to be cast over the character of God. Sis, this is not a good place to be at all.

Reflection
Dear sister, when you see or hear the Word being twisted or ignored, what rises in you? Do you feel a “burn” when Scripture is marginalized, or have you become “lukewarm” to the world’s apathy? Do you stay quiet to avoid discomfort, or do you feel a stirring to stand with what is written?
The Word of God is still holy, still pure, still worthy of honour. Will you carry that honour in your heart?
Prayer
Dear Father, let Your Word be more than just a book I read; let it be a fire shut up in my bones. Forgive me for the times I chose the comfort of silence over the honor of Your Name. Give me a zeal that consumes apathy and a courage that refuses to let Your Truth be sidelined. May I love Your Word so much that I cannot help but speak it and speak for it in the Mighty Name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
