Now thank we all our God…Who wondrous things hath done…Hath led us on our way, With countless gifts of love, And still is ours today. – Martin Rinkart

Glooryyyy to Jesus. The BUD Family Africa is 10 years old today! It is a day of reflection which should lead to thanksgiving. The Bible says ‘O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good and His mercies endures forever’ (Psalm 118:1).

Day-to-day living and existence is one of the most taken for granted blessings man has received from God. It is no wonder that the Psalmist needed to plead that we be taught to number our days so we can apply our hearts to wisdom (Psalm 90:12). Why so? Because when life goes as we have known it to, it is so easy to forget who God is and the role He plays in our daily sustenance.

One of the things the new man in a Christian does is to teach us how to live with thankfulness in every situation of life. By the Holy Spirit in us, we are taught to know that thanksgiving is central to the Christian life.

ECHOES OF TRUTH

The Holy Spirit teaches us to live in the consciousness of God at work in us to will and to do of His good pleasures  (Philippians 2:13) and to respond to that with gratitude. This is because gratitude does not always come naturally. Often, our prayers are filled with requests, petitions and desires, while we offer thanksgiving perfunctory or only when our desires are met.

Thanksgiving should not be based on feelings or occasions, but the natural part of us as new creatures in Christ Jesus. We learn from our Lord who would do nothing without first recognising that He had the ability to do it because the Father has permitted it, hence, that always led Him to thanksgiving (John 11:41; 6:11; Luke 22:19; Matthew 11:25).

When we also bear in our consciousness that when gratitude takes root in our hearts, it changes the posture of our lives, our hearts are softened toward God, our hands are moved to serve others, and our voices are lifted in praise and testimony. Gratitude to God grows within us when we slow down long enough to remember God’s role in our lives.

Scripture consistently calls God’s people to remember God’s deliverance, direction, sustenance, strength and lots more because that way, we remind ourselves that God has always been in control and He always will.

Gratitude has a way of re-aligning our hearts by drawing our attention away from comparison and complaint and anchors it on trust. It reminds us that what we have is not accidental, and what we lack is not evidence of God’s absence.

A thankful heart says, “God has been good to me, and He is still with me.” A life of thanksgiving protects us from entitlement and pride. It keeps us humble, aware that every good thing is a gift of grace. It also strengthens our witness. In a world marked by dissatisfaction and constant striving, a grateful believer quietly declares confidence in God’s goodness.

When gratitude becomes a daily discipline, it reshapes how we pray, how we endure hardship, and how we see God at work around us. Dear Sisters, aim to live a life that embodies gratitude and thanksgiving. Bless the Lord at all times, for He is good and His mercies endures forever.

Soak in this hymn and sing in gratitude to God: Now Thank We All Our God

Let Us Pray:

Heavenly Father, we thank You for You are God, thank You for being mindful of us, thank You for Your hand in our good and not so good days. We bless You for Your faithfulness and steadfastness, even in our times of weakness, You have been our strength.

We ask for mercy Lord, in all the ways we have been unthankful, focusing on what is left to be done, ignoring all that You have done in our lives. We pray that You help us see You in all seasons of life. Let there be nothing that can ever take us away from Your presence and stop us from being thankful. We also thank You for the BUD Family Africa. Thank You for how far You have helped us. Continue to take ALL the glory, in Jesus name we pray. Amen
