The Force of Worship by Ekele Blessing

It moves God from His throne and set Him in motion for exploits!
It is the surest way into enjoying His overwhelming presence.
It reveals the wonder of creation and makes us tremble at the perfectness of all there is!
It is borne out of love and deep intimacy!

What could this be?

Above is a summary of tonight’s session, who can guess what it is?

Topic: The Force of Worship

Tonight’s session will be divided into two parts, theory and practical.
I hope you’re ready to worship God sisters?Tonight mountains will move!
There would be sound of abundance of rain in Jesus name!

Worship is an act of devotion accorded to a Deity who is considered worthy, distinct and full of honour. It points a great deal to how much love one has towards that Deity. It is a form of reverence offered to God.

In essence, worshipping God is borne out of love for Him and not necessarily conditioned by what He has done for us.

It is giving reverential adoration to the only Wise King not because He saved you from an accident, sickness or misfortune but because every day of our lives we owe Him that reverence for being God.

Worship is an act, this means it takes deliberate effort and action. It is meant to spring from within the depth of our souls.
Because it is borne out of love, it cannot be enforced on us and must not be seen as just a religious practice. You only find it difficult to worship God when there is a disconnection from Him and more focus on all of life’s affairs.

Just like a lover expresses delightful admiration to his/her spouse to keep the bond of intimacy intact, we as lovers of God must make it a point of duty to express how we feel about God all the time to keep our relationship with Him flourishing. Worship is intimacy and we are meant to enjoy every second of it.

_1 Chronicles 16:29: Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness._

Worship is expressed in several ways. It could be in prayers, songs, service, and giving (1Chronicles 16:29) and could be done for the following reasons:

1️⃣ In awe of His personality.
God is beyond description and His personality transcends all there is and all that will ever be.
Is this not enough a reason to worship Him?

2️⃣In delight of His creation.
There is a hymn that best describe the wonders of God’s creation, below👇🏼

====================
O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

Chorus:
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

When through the woods, and forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.
When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur
And see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze.

And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on a Cross, my burdens gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: “My God, how great Thou art!”
====================

I don’t know about you but whenever I sing the above hymn, I get lost in the lyrics and wonder how great God is!
The well calculated position of all there is on earth is enough reason to worship Him!

3️⃣For the faithfulness of His Word.
How He brings to pass His promises in our lives is more than enough reason to worship Him. How He always come through for us is beyond description.

_Psalms 89:34 My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips._

👆🏼This is enough reason to worship Him! What an assurance we have in Him!

How can we worship God?

Is it just in praises and songs alone? Of course not! (2Chronicles 29:28).

1️⃣We can worship God with our talents: Be sure however not to worship Him in fleshy show of what we possess but in sincerity of heart giving Him glory with what He has given us.

2️⃣With songs and praises (Psalm 100:2). These songs should spring forth from the depth of our hearts, it should express just how we feel about God.

Each words, lyrics of our chants must resonate with our innermost spirits to give glory to God.

_Psalms 100:1 Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. 100:2 Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing. 100:3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. 100:5 For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations._

3️⃣We can worship Him in Spirit and in Truth (John 4:23, 24).
God delights in true worshippers not congregational worshippers (congregational worshippers are those who worship God only when in church when they do not have a choice because others are doing it so they just have to join not to be indifferent).
True worshippers are those who worship God in spirit and in truth. Because God sees our hearts, He knows those who just pretend to worship Him because of who He is and not just out of compulsion and He only accepts the worship that is from the heart.

King David was an ardent worshipper of God. For him, worshipping God was not conditioned on what God has done but it was a lifestyle; that as why even in the toughest of situations, he still worshipped God.

_Psalms 93:3 The floods have lifted up, O LORD, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their waves. 93:4 The LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea. 93:5 Thy testimonies are very sure: holiness becometh thine house, O LORD, for ever._

Oh even the mighty floods could not hinder him from worshipping God because He knew no flood is mightier than God!

King David understood that worship is offering and sacrifice that was why he said in 2 Samuel 24:24…

_”And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the LORD my God of that which doth cost me nothing.”_

Beyond words of worship, God demands our service of worship.
Your service unto God is a form of worship, how much does it cost you?

Are you a bread and better worshipper? Only offer service unto God when it is convenient? Can you go the extra mile for Him?

Here are some questions for you👇🏼

I gave My life for thee,
My precious blood I shed,
That thou might ransomed be,
And raised up from the dead;
I gave, I gave My life for thee,
What hast thou giv’n for Me?
I gave, I gave My life for thee,
What hast thou giv’n for Me?

I suffered much for thee,
More than thy tongue can tell,
Of bitt’rest agony,
To rescue thee from hell;
I’ve borne, I’ve borne it all for thee,
What hast thou borne for Me?
I’ve borne, I’ve borne it all for thee,
What hast thou borne for Me?

Remember, your service is an act of worship. How much of it have you given to the Lord Worshipping God is beyond singing praises my sisters, our life is meant to be a living form of worship to God!
Worship is a reverential act and this means that when paying reverence to anyone greater than you, your physical posture matters a lot.

I believe you’ve seen movies where the king’s praise singers chant the praises of their rulers and as they sing they gesticulate and move in demonstration of what they chant.

This they do for earthly kings. But it is sad how as believers we form big women in God’s presence; we worship God with our mouths but not with our hearts.
We act as though we are being forced to worship Him as we struggle to even get up from our sits.

If truly our worship spring from within, then we would get lost completely to our environment and worship Him with the whole of our being.

Effects of Worship

1️⃣Keeps us in the aura & consciousness of God’s presence always.

_2 Chronicles 5:13 It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD; 5:14 So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of God._

*When your life is characterized by worship you daily radiant in the glory of God!*

2️⃣Guarantees victory: I tell you where all seems not to work, switch on to worship. It rolls away the greatest of mountains and brings calmness to every troubled situation.

_2Chronocles 20:15-20 And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper. 20:21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever. 20:22 And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten. 20:23 For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another. 20:24 And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped. 20:25 And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much._

3️⃣It is a sure cure for depression.

_Isaiah 61:3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified._

️4️⃣Opens closed doors and brings liberty. Acts 16:25-26.

Paul and Silas sang praises not because they expected a miracle but because it was their usual habit to worship God in difficult situation and the result of that worship was divine freedom from the prison.

What’s that difficult situation you’re facing right now? Tried everything? Have you considered worshipping God in praises? You should do that!

5️⃣It increases our faith. Worshipping God brings to mind all He has done for us in time past and this serves as a booster to our faith assuring us that He who has helped us in time past is ever present to help us again (2Corinthians 1:10).

Let me share this with you👇🏼

In the early hours of Wednesday in the year 2018, February to be precise. Dad was taken to the hospital after a sleepless and painful night. His stomach will not just stop aching. At first we thought it was something he ate but when we got to the hospital it became quite serious. Earlier a member from the church had called dad’s line to inform him about a terrible dream he had concerning him, according to him he saw someone who is quite close to dad pressing his stomach hardly unaware that dad has been hospitalize due to severe stomach ache.
Several test were conducted but no one could reveal what exactly was wrong. It was in the late hours of Wednesday that a consultant came in, scan through the various test results and said dad was having pain due to an appendicitis that is over ripe.

Dad was scheduled for operation the next day. He was rolled into the theatre at about 4pm and few hours later he was rolled out. The hospital was filled up with church members and relatives who were standing at various points praying. Just as we were rejoicing on a successful operation, we saw dad been rolled back into the theatre with a rush as the appearing of a lightening.

I hour passed, 2 hours passed, 3, 4, 5 hours passed and still nothing was heard neither did we see them coming out of the operating room. Just then, we saw the doctors coming out one after another and on their faces was a message that isn’t pleasant even though they said nothing to us.

After they walked out, a nurse who happened to be a member walked into the theatre and as she walked out, she had tears in her eyes. At this point it was as though I was almost fainting as I was scared on what she was about to say.

She whispered to one of the pastor’s standing beside mom but mom insisted they told her what the problem was. She looked at mom and said, “pastor is no longer breathing, he is only being supported by a machine and once we take it off, that will be the end.”

I felt like dying myself when I heard that but the response of mom held me on a little. She said, “he will breath!” And after saying that, she called me and my siblings aside a little away from the theatre area. She said this,
“we have prayed and I believe God has answered but I was told that when you pray and it seems prayer is not enough, switch to worship and praises. Children we are going to worship God now and sing praises to Him.”

That was how we all launched into a session of worship, at a point it was as though we were caught up in the spirit and lost consciousness of our environment, we sang and danced continuously and then suddenly, a mummy in the church ran from the direction of the theatre towards where we stood and keep shouting, “pastor has started breathing! Pastor has started breathing!!” As she ran into a warm embrace with mom.

My siblings and I couldn’t hold back tears of joy as we knew this was simply a miracle. Onlookers who had been staring at us joined in rejoicing and celebrating with us. Even the doctors couldn’t hold back their excitement as they knew it was God who did it!

From that day onward, I knew worship is a powerful force that moves God into action for His children.

What’s that situation troubling you sisters Have you worshipped God today concerning it?

Let’s begin to worship God aright and consistently from henceforth.

It is time!

Are you ready to worship Him?
Let’s go back to the Hymn, “How Great Thou Art”

Sing that hymn from the depth of your heart!

Release yourself completely to the words!Sing on until you feel satisfied in your spirit.

Oh please remember your gesticulation, let it flow freely!
Remember, your worship is your weapon!

A sure way to win that battle! Let it begin as a fragrance and see it turn to fire!

Then all battles you’ve been struggling with will be won!

Just sing and chant on! Let your soul sing of how great He is!

I hope you’re singing sisters?

Don’t stop until you feel feel that mountains rolling away!

“Fragrance To Fire”

First it was fragrance
Then it turned to fire
My worship is my weapon
That is how you win your battle

The fragrance of my worship
Rose up to the Father
Noises, Thunderings, Earthquakes
Were the response to my worship
The fragrance of my worship
Rose up to the Father
Noises, Thunderings, Lightnings
Were the response to my worship
The fragrance of my worship
Rose up to the Father
Noises, Thunderings, Earthquakes
Were the response to my worship
The fragrance of my worship
Rose up to the Father
Noises, Thunderings, Lightnings
Were the response to my worship

First it was fragrance
Then it turned to fire
My worship is my weapon
This is how I win my battle
First it was fragrance
Then it turned to fire
My worship is my weapon
This is how I win my battle
I’ll round up now but please don’t stop worshipping until you are satisfied.

Remember, worship transcends singing alone. Your service, giving, obedience and faith in His word is an act of service.
Live in this consciousness always!
