Seasonless Gratitude

Seasonless Gratitude

Echoes of Truth

February 5th

Theme: Seasonless Gratitude

A thankful heart is one of the primary identifying characteristics of a believer. It stands in stark contrast to pride, selfishness, and worry. And it helps fortify the believer’s trust in the Lord and reliance of His provision, even in the toughest times. No matter how choppy the seas become, a believer’s heart is buoyed by constant praise and gratefulness to the Lord – John MacArthur

Apostle Paul’s life was full of many joys yet greater sorrows (2 Corinthians 6:10; Philippians 4:1), many rewards yet greater tribulations (2 Corinthians 11:23-28). Still, he shares many divine revelations and ascensions into realms he had no authority to speak of with others.

What a man who had every reason to give up the course and relieve himself of the weight of the cross! What a man who had more seasons of need, lack, than the seasons of plenty (Phillipians 4:11-12)! What a man who had every right to keep the truth revealed to himself when he was being tagged heretic. Paul was that man who faced as many betrayals like his Lord, Jesus Christ

But there’s a contrasting light that shines right through the gloom of each season of his Christian life, thanksgiving. No matter the Church Paul wrote to, he was that man who had come to learn that thanksgiving was a weapon to keep him humble at the feet of Jesus and dependent on Him.

ECHOES OF TRUTH

Safe for the Galatian church whose faith he was so eager to make right again (Galatians 1:6), Paul would begin his letters with the clear highlight of thanksgiving. Each thanksgiving served to highlight that God was in charge of this Church and His workings amidst them was evident. Paul could see God’s hand at work each time  through thanksgiving because he had understood that it kept God right at the centre of each Church and their situation.

Gratitude quietly shapes the way a believer sees God, themselves, and the world around them. In a culture that often rewards self-gratification, entitlement, and quick answers, a thankful heart points beyond circumstances and anchors itself in the unchanging goodness of God.

Gratitude is a deliberate, intentional act of the heart and mind to acknowledge that God’s hand is at work, that His mercies are present and that His purposes are good, even when those purposes are wrapped in circumstances we would not choose for ourselves.

True gratitude is not contingent on material abundance, perfect health or smooth paths, rather the deep rooted acknowledgement that the giver is enough and His promises do not fail, as God is faithful (1 Thessalonians 5:24).

A thankful heart recognizes that every breath, every blessing, and even every lesson learned through difficulty is sustained by God’s grace. When gratitude takes root, pride loosens its grip, and humility grows naturally.

Pride says ‘I did this, I deserve this’. A selfish person is mindful of her own situations and what is lacking around her.  However, gratitude humbly sees the invisible threads of God’s providence in all situations. It strengthens trust in God. When we intentionally express gratitude for all the Lord has done for us, we train our hearts to see God’s hand in our current situations.

Let us endeavour to grow in God and grow in gratitude. It glorifies God and transforms our lives.

Let Us Pray:

Abba Father, we thank You for Your many mercies that we receive. We thank You for Your faithfulness and divine generosity in our lives. Lord , please forgive us for all the times that pride, selfishness and comparison have taken gratitude away from my heart. Forgive me for looking at my citations and taking my gaze away from You. Lord, we pray that You keep us grateful, help us to continually trust in You, realign our eyes to look unto You at all times, thank You for You are able to do this and more in our lives in Jesus name. Amen
