TOPIC: BREAKING FREE FROM DELAYS AND DENIALS

Hello Sister! Welcome to day 4 of the Juicy July Program.

I believe God has been revealing Himself greatly to us. He is set to do even much more if just can intensify the squeeze. Amen?

Today, we are considering the topic “Breaking Free from Delays and Denials.”

When the secretary sent me the schedule for the bulletin, I smiled when I saw the topic I was to handle. God’s timing is amazing I must say.

Personally, I am in a season of my life where this is one of my major prayer points and for me this proves that God is aware and because He is aware, I am sure answers will come speedily in Jesus’ Name.

There is something I want us to understand before we dive into this particular topic. God’s waiting room is not the same as delays or denials.

God’s waiting room is where a believer is kept while looking up to God for the fulfillment of His promises in their lives.

In God’s waiting room, you are being prepared for a blessing you are looking up to God for.

We call it God’s waiting room because you have to wait for God’s timing in fulfillment of your desires.

For every promise of God for His children, there is a time of manifestation.

In God’s waiting room you are kept for the day your appointed blessings are manifested; in this room, you are taught patience, faith, and absolute trust in God through seeking His face to know when the timing is right.

In your waiting period, you go through a process of maturity, growth, pruning and development.

An attempt to hasten God’s timing or work things out ourselves is one of the reasons why people face delay.

In God’s waiting room, you are given a word for that season. It could be a Bible passage, a song/hymn, a word from the Holy Spirit or reassurance of God’s thoughts for you.

I was speaking with a friend recently and he was saying how he is still waiting on God for marital settlement, he was almost sounding frustrated because he felt time was going. Because I know he has been praying about it, I asked him what God is saying to him about it. He said, “God said that I should be patient.”

Now, that was God’s word for him in the waiting room. Personally, there was a time I felt so down about an issue I was dealing with that I had to discuss with someone. I was asked to pray fervently and seek the face of God. When I did, God dropped the chorus of a hymn in my heart and whenever worries or fears about that issue arises, I quickly sing that hymn and it reassures me that God is aware, and He is working even though I cannot see it. So, in God’s waiting room, there is a sure assurance that you will be attended to.

Now, let’s dive into the topic for today.

Delay is when expectation is stretched beyond the limit.

It is an unexpected lapse in time between prophecy and manifestation.

It is a constant step backward away from the fulfillment of destiny.

People experience delays in various aspects of their lives depending on the peculiar situation.

It could be educational delay, marital delay, delay in childbirth, delay in fulfilling destiny among others.

Be conscious about examining your life and identifying which area is plagued with delay or denial. God will bring us freedom even today in Jesus’ Name.

Delay and denial are not God’s will for His children, it is never the will of God for His children who are looking up to Him for a desire or blessing to be delayed or denied.

Denial occurs when the day of the manifestation of God’s blessings upon a life goes unfulfilled.

A believer must be sensitive enough in the spirit to discern when waiting on God has metamorphosed into a case of delay.

Delay occurs when there are forces working against the manifestation of God’s blessings upon the life of an individual.

Satan has many devices, for many of God’s children he cannot stop what God wants to do so he tries and delay it.

This means that one of the causes of delay and denial is the Devil.

1 Thessalonians 2:18 says 1 Thessalonians 2:18

[18]Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us.

Other times, Satan partners with the bearer of the promise to delay that promise from being fulfilled and at other times, it could be a spiritual attack from an evil altar of darkness

Daniel 10:12-13 says:

Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.

But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.

Delays and denials are attacks intended to hinder one’s progress, to bring frustration and stop one from manifesting the plans of God for their lives.

WHY DO BELIEVERS FACE DELAY AND DENIAL?

• BECAUSE OF SIN: When there is delay or denial in any believer’s life, the chiefest culprit to look out for is this!

Immediately the enemy knows the Lord has something on the way for you, he’d quickly scan you to see if you have any of his works in your hands.

Immediately he finds one, he quickly goes before the Lord to accuse us. That’s why the Bible calls him the ‘accuser of the brethren’.

It might be a sin you have committed or it might not even be. It might be the sins of your father’s father. Your mother’s mother. Your ancestors.

The devil doesn’t care. He knows the power of blood, so he would tender that file to the Lord and say ‘No, You can’t bless that one, Lord!’

ISAIAH 59:2 says: Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither is his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:

But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

BECAUSE OF IMPATIENCE: When God sees impatience in us; when He sees that we are jumpy; when He sees that we are seeking the gift more than the Giver; when He sees that we will leave Him immediately we get what we want; He might hold on on the fulfilment of His Word for us thereby causing a delay. This is because the Lord is more interested in our souls more than anything else. He was to make us holy than make us happy. He delights in our souls than in our service. If He sees we aren’t patient, which obviously is a pointer to a high level of unbelief, He might hold on on His promises.

That was exactly what happened to the children of Israel. They were impatient, they were unbelieving, they were complaining and a journey of 40 days became 40 years!

Patience is a virtue that Christians are called to cultivate. Sometimes delays occur simply because God wants to develop patience within us, if we will cooperate. Some cannot endure this though, so they opt out and miss out!

TO MAKE YOU COMPLAIN AGAINST GOD: Delays aim at provoking frustration and disappointment, leading many believers to complain against God. He knows that if he can get you to complain against God, you can even lose everything you have and all you are expecting. This is because the Lord hates murmurings and complaining. Those are symptoms of high faithlessness which belittles God.

So, the Devil uses delays and denials a lot to make God seem small in our eyes. In the end, you might start blaming God and questioning Him. Then, the delay becomes elongated.

TO MAKE US COMPROMISE. Delays can also create opportunities for compromise and temptation. When Christians face delays, there is a risk of becoming impatient and seeking shortcuts or compromises that are contrary to God’s will. They’d want to help God. No husband is forthcoming, so I better get out there to make myself seen! As if being inside is hiding you, as if God’s eyes can’t reach you even if you are in the deepest deep!

Genesis 16:2b says Genesis 16:2 says ‘…I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.’

And that was how Sarah created an everlasting chaos that we still suffer till now! The birth of Ismael was the birth of war!

TO ENSURE GOD’S GLORY DOESN’T COME TO PASS: Believers might face delays and denials because their enemy is fighting God’s glory and His Will from coming to pass. That is why so many people die with their dreams, visions and purposes. Why? Because the Devil sits down with that Will of God and fights it tooth and nail from coming to pass.

He tried to do the same with Joseph. If he couldn’t kill the dream, he wanted to kill the dreamer. Thank God for Joseph’s steadfastness in righteousness.

And this is why you need to learn spiritual warfare because it is real! You need to arise and fight the devil that is fighting you. You must stop the one who is trying to stop you!

Let’s take our first song. This song is to remind us of who God is to us and to debunk the lies of the Devil. It is to assure us of the kind of God we serve.

Welcome back sisters.

Let’s look at our text, Proverbs 13:12: Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: But when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.

This text explains how much delay and denial can affect the overall wellbeing of a person.

The Bible says, “it makes the heart sick.” Do you know what it means for the heart to be sick?

The signs of a sick heart includ:

One, you become used to not getting feedback or answers while you pray. You are less concerned if God answers or not, just indifferent. You begin to do prayers just as a normal routine- well, that’s even if you pray! Some stop praying altogether!

Two, you label a particular situation as impossible, while you can pray about other things, you don’t bother to pray about that situation. You just feel you are destined to manage that situation, so you don’t see the need to even pray about it again.

Three, you begin to lower your expectations and accept anything that comes your way because you are tired of waiting. This includes sisters that will choose to marry just any man that shows interest in them, they do not care to check with God anymore, they just want to get married and “rest”.

Four, you become unconsciously angry with God. Although you don’t admit it but deep down, you know you are holding a grudge against your Maker. Although you might remain active in service and fellowship but there is a deep void within.

And five, the faith in you dies and doubt arises. You read the Bible with no impact whatsoever, you only do that as a routine.

These signs are indicators that the heart is sick as a result of delay and denial.

WHAT ARE THE SIGNS THAT YOU ARE EXPERIENCING DELAY AND DENIAL:

-The closer you draw to hope and aspirations, the further it gets from your reach. A step forward today and ten steps backward tomorrow.

-Setbacks at the edge of breakthroughs.

-Frustration becomes a daily occurrence.

-You contemplate giving up or finding an ungodly shortcut.

-Evil dreams that contrast your expectations.

-Evil patterns and cycles you have seen in your family. Your elder sisters experienced the same thing. Your mom also. And your grandfather. They all probably wait and wait till they died. They never got the promised glory. Ah, watch that!

Now that you have identified this:

HOW CAN WE DEAL WITH DELAYS AND DENIALS

(Open your Bible and read each text, please so you can pray with understanding)

• Identify the one that is coming from your enemies. Ephesians 6:12.

• Identify delays sponsored by Satan. Matthew 13:28.

• Identify that which is self-inflicted. The prodigal son wasted his morning season when he rebelled against his father. Luke 15:11-16. Also The children of Israel doubted God’s word about possessing the land and wandered in the wilderness for 40years.

• Understand who you are in Christ. Eph. 1:18-23.

• Become unsatisfied with the situation. Your freedom comes the day you become angry with the situation. You must become restless with the situation. Genesis 27:36-38, 40b.

• Let go of every weight that drags you further away from your breakthrough and keep your gaze on Jesus. Hebrews 12:1-3.

• Pray with importunity. This kind of prayer is the one that will cause a change, you wouldn’t stop until you are sure there is a change, until you get a miracle. Luke 18:1-7; I Kings 18:41-44.

• Make prayer demand for the termination of delay. Daniel 9:2,3.

• Trust God for a divine visitation and encounter. Genesis 18:14; 21:1.

• Make Bible-based declarations! Psalm 81:10b.

• Proceed in praise and appreciation. Acts 16:25,26.

NOW, WE NEED TO PRAY!

Are you ready to pray, sisters?

Look within now and identify the cause of delay and denial in your life.

Is it self-inflicted as a result of disobedience to God or doubting His word?

Is it as a result of sin and deadly weight?

Identify it now and be true to yourself.

Approach the throne of grace now and plead for mercy.

Cry out to God and ask for pardon.

Tell God how insufficient you are and how you can do nothing without His help.

Ask the Lord to forgive you for doubting His words, confess all sins now and lay every weight at the feet of Christ.

Yes, lay it all at the feet of Christ where there is grace and mercy.

Plead for mercy and forgiveness until there is a witness of pardon in your heart.

• By the power in the Name of Jesus, I terminate every delay and denial in my life. I decree total freedom by the fire of the Holy Ghost.
