A Different Kind of Woman

ECHOES OF TRUTH

A Different Kind of Woman

This quote for today is a very popular quote from Elisabeth Elliot and it is profound. It deserves a closer observation and meditation.

You see, many people begin with womanhood and then try to fit Christianity inside it. They first define themselves as women according to culture, society, or personal feelings, and afterward they try to practice Christianity within that framework. In that thinking, Christianity becomes something added to an already defined identity.

But this quote reverses the order. It is not womanhood first and Christianity trying to find its way in! It is the other way round!

“The fact that I am a woman does not make me a different kind of Christian.”

This simply means that being a woman does not change the nature of Christianity itself. The gospel does not adjust its standard based on gender.

The Scriptures do not present one kind of salvation for men and another for women. There is not a “female version” of Christianity with softer commands or different expectations. The call to follow Christ is the same for every believer.

The Bible says all must repent. The Bible says all must believe. The Bible says all must deny themselves and follow the Lord. Those commands are not divided by gender.

So Elisabeth Elliot is saying that her womanhood does not redefine Christianity. She does not approach Christ with a modified set of rules because she is female. She is simply a Christian, under the same Lord, under the same Word, and under the same call to obedience.

In other words, the gospel remains fixed and unchanging. It does not bend itself around our genders and identities.

Rather, when someone truly becomes a Christian, their identity begins to be reshaped by Christ.

Her heart begins to change its measurements of value. The things that once looked important begin to lose their shine. The things that once seemed small suddenly become precious.

She begins to see strength differently: The world calls strength independence, loudness, and resistance to authority. But the Scriptures show another kind of strength. The Bible says that a gentle and quiet spirit is precious before God. The world may not celebrate this kind of strength, but heaven does.

She begins to see beauty differently: The world teaches women to decorate the outside while neglecting the soul. But the Scriptures say that true beauty is the hidden person of the heart. A woman whose heart fears God carries a beauty that does not fade with age or change with fashion.

She begins to see purpose differently: The world pushes women toward recognition, applause, and self-exaltation. But when Christ takes hold of a woman’s heart, she begins to love the quiet work of faithfulness. She begins to see eternal value in nurturing life, building a home, discipling children, serving the church, and walking humbly with God.

This transformation is not something she forces upon herself. It is something Christ produces within her.

When Mary received the message that she would carry the Savior, her response revealed the heart of a woman shaped by God. She said, “Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.” (Luke 1:38)

Mary did not first ask how this would affect her reputation, her comfort, or her plans. Her identity as the Lord’s servant defined her response.

When the Lord rules the heart of a woman, her priorities slowly begin to align with heaven. She begins to hunger for the Scriptures. She begins to value prayer. She begins to love righteousness. She begins to tremble at the Word of God.

A Christian woman becomes different not because she is trying to oppose the world, but because she now belongs to another kingdom.

Her life begins to carry the fragrance of heaven.

She becomes a woman who trusts the Lord when others trust themselves.

She becomes a woman who obeys the Scriptures when others follow culture.

She becomes a woman who fears God more than she fears people.

The world may misunderstand her.

Some will say she is old-fashioned. Others will say she is oppressed. Still others will say she is wasting her life.

But the Scripture says that the woman who fears the Lord shall be praised.

Her life may be quiet in the eyes of the world, but it is radiant before God.

This is the kind of woman that Christianity produces.

Not a woman who simply adds religion to her life. But a woman whose entire identity has been reshaped by Christ.

And when that happens, the question is no longer, What does the world say a woman should be? The question becomes: “Lord, what kind of woman does Your Word call me to be?”

The world says women can become anything they want to be but a Christian woman understands that her life belongs to Christ. Her identity has already been defined by the Word of God.

Because of this, she does not simply live as any woman would live. She lives as a woman whose thoughts, priorities, and decisions are shaped by the Scriptures.

Her values are different. Her ambitions are different. Her understanding of womanhood is different.

Because the fact that she is a Christian has made her a different kind of woman!¬

Christianity does not merely sit beside a woman’s identity. It transforms it!

A Different Kind of Woman

When Womanhood Is Placed Above Christ

This is where much of the confusion of our time comes from, sis.

Today, many people place womanhood above Christ instead of allowing Christ to shape womanhood.

Instead of beginning with the Scriptures and asking, “Lord, what does Your Word say about womanhood?” many begin with their identity as women and then decide which parts of Christianity they are willing to accept.

In other words, womanhood becomes the authority, and Christ is expected to adjust to it.

You hear it when someone says, “As a woman, I cannot accept this teaching.”

Or, “That part of the Bible may have applied long ago, but women today are different.”

But the Scriptures say, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and for ever.” (Hebrews 13:8)

You hear this attitude in the way some people speak about the Scriptures.

When certain passages challenge modern ideas of womanhood, some respond by dismissing them entirely. They say things like, “That was just Paul speaking,” or “Paul was a chauvinist who hated women,” or “Those instructions were written in a time when women had no rights.”

But the Scriptures say that all Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16).

When people begin to separate parts of the Bible and treat them as human opinions instead of the Word of God, womanhood has been placed above the authority of Scripture.

Instead of allowing the Word of God to shape their understanding of womanhood, they attempt to reshape the Word of God to fit their understanding of womanhood.

But the Christian life does not begin with correcting the Scriptures; it begins with submitting to them (James 1:22).

LET US PRAY

Heavenly Father, I come before You today with a humble and open heart. The Scriptures say that You desire truth in the inward parts. Lord, search my heart and reveal anything within me that does not align with Your Word.

Father, take me deeper in Your Word. Let the Scriptures no longer be distant words on a page, but living truth shaping my heart, my thoughts, and my life. Open my understanding. The Scriptures say that the entrance of Your Word gives light. Let that light shine into every corner of my life.

Lord, remove every mindset in me that has been shaped more by culture than by Christ. If there are ways I have allowed the world to define womanhood for me, expose them and uproot them. Wash my thinking with the truth of Your Word.

Father, give me a hunger for the Scriptures. Let me love Your Word more than opinions, trends, and the voices of this generation. The Scriptures say that Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Let it guide every decision I make.

Teach me to walk in obedience. Deliver me from selective obedience, where I accept the parts of Your Word that are comfortable and resist the parts that challenge me. Give me a heart that trembles at Your Word and delights in doing Your will.

Lord, form Christ within me. Let my thoughts be renewed. Let my desires be purified. Let my life reflect the character of the Lord Jesus.

Make me a woman who grows daily in the fear of the Lord. A woman who loves righteousness. A woman who seeks Your presence in prayer. A woman whose strength comes from intimacy with You.

Let my life be rooted in Your truth so deeply that when the winds of culture blow, I remain standing. Let my identity be grounded in Christ and shaped by the Scriptures.

Father, make me a different kind of woman. A woman whose life is being transformed daily by Your Word.

Draw me closer to You. Teach me Your ways. Establish my steps in Your truth.

I surrender myself again today. Shape me, teach me, and grow me according to Your Word.

I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

  1. The Christian life does not begin with correcting the Scriptures, it begins with submitting to the Scriptures…

God help me to be your kind of woman that submits totally to the Scriptures.

I aim to be this woman, Lord.
A biblical woman whose identity is in Christ. Whose truth is the Word of God. A woman who dwells daily in the presence of God, beholding God’s beauty until she becomes the very image of God. A woman who is one with Christ, who is not shaped by the society and strength. Let me be this woman, Lord and also all my BUD sisters. Let there be an emergence of godly women who have embraced their true identity in Christ, who are the split image of Christ, fully yielded to Christ, birthing holy things for Christ and raising God’s battle axes. Amen.
