If a person doesn’t love the church, they don’t love Jesus. –  Voddie Baucham

The Bible makes it clear that Jesus is the Head of the Church and we all are members of the Body of Christ (Colossians 1:18). Apostle Paul clearly depicts the relationship of the Church as one body with the analogy of the human body. The eyes, ears, kidney, legs, heart, veins, brain, skull, bone, cells, and every single seen and unseen body part all have significant functions and every part depends on the other part for a healthy living (Romans 12:4-5).

Why then is it so difficult to see the absence of classism, divisions, superiority and all other foreign things in the Body to which Christ is the Head? We must understand that Jesus’ last words before heading to the Cross to purchase the Church for Himself is not to be trivialised. Jesus said in John 13:34, if we truly profess to love HIm, we are commanded to love ourselves as He has loved us.

How has Christ loved us? In many ways: Giving His life for us, making room for us to be joint-heirs of the Father with Him, giving us access to the same Spirit in Him, granting us audience with the Father by His blood, making constant intercession on our behalf, praying for us!

ECHOES OF TRUTH

If Jesus did all these, it all proves the depth of His love and all out He went to prove it! Why then are churches rising against churches and refusing to acknowledge each other? Why then are we non-challant about our siblings in various parts of the world going through persecutions of their faith of all manner? Why then do we contribute to persecuting other Believers for their decision to stand for righteousness?

How can we claim to love God who we can’t see if we hate our brothers and sisters that we can see? One of the true proofs of our love for God is our love for one another (1 John 4:20-21). If you love the Lord, you must also love His body, the Church.

Dear sister, do you love the church? Do you love your fellow siblings in Christ? Do you give yourself to prayers for the sake of the members of your local Church and others far away?

We cannot claim to love the Church without visible fruits of intercession, refusing to backbite or speak evil of the church, loving every one from different denominations, standing with those being persecuted for righteousness and for Christ. We need the love of Christ to bind us together as one, now, more than ever.

Let Us Pray:

Abba Father, I thank You for choosing me to be a part of Your body, thank You for loving me and demonstrating it by giving Yourself for me and guiding me by Your Spirit. I ask for forgiveness in all the ways I have not been functioning as an effective part of Your body. Forgive me for all the malice, non-challance, evil words and hate I have demonstrated to my siblings. From today, help me to truly love Your body. I recive Grace to love in actions and not just in my words. Thank You Jesus for Your Spirit will keep working in me until You are formed in me, in Jesus name. Amen
