THEME: FATHER, FOR YOUR MERCIES WE PLEAD!

TEXT: PSALM 122:6, 2 CHRONICLES 7:14

Sisters, let us be sincere with ourselves. Too many of us are still normal. We wake up, eat as usual, gist as usual, scroll our phones as usual, and sleep as usual. Many do not even remember that prayer exists except for quick, selfish, personal prayer points that we have repeated for years. We are not moved. We are not touched. We are not stirred. We are simply normal, like the spiritually dead kind of normal. Ah, God have mercy!

When we hear “let us pray for our country,” some of us switch off immediately. Our hearts shut down. We feel nothing. We think it is a political matter. We think “it does not concern me.” But sisters, can you imagine if it was your own father, mother, husband or child that was in the den of a kidnapper? Can you imagine receiving a phone call that they must bring hundreds of millions for release? You who have probably never held one million at once. Can you imagine the fear?

Can you imagine hearing that someone very close to you went to church to worship God and was shot to death? Would you still be praying casually? Would you still be living like this? Would you still be comfortable and untouched?

This is the tragedy of the church today, sis, selfishness!

ECHOES OF TRUTH

This is what Mordecai rebuked Esther for. He told her plainly, “Don’t think because you are in the palace, you are safe. Don’t think because your life is soft now, you are no longer one of us. If this destruction comes, it will meet you too. And if you refuse to rise, God will raise another, but you and your father’s house will perish.”

That is the message to the Body of Christ today!

Some of us have never travelled. Some of us are in safe zones. Some of us are abroad. Some of us are sheltered in quiet cities. And we think Nigeria’s pain is far. We think we can ignore it. We think we are unaffected. But sisters, no one is truly far from a burning house. Oh yes, explosions do happen! Oh yes, fire can grow!

We need to repent of selfishness today. We need to plead for God’s mercy. Nigeria is on the brink. Nigeria is bleeding. Nigeria is disgraced. Nigeria is shamed. And the sad part is that most believers cannot feel it. The burden is just not there. Maybe they fear for their lives here and there, but no, there’s no feeling towards the plight of the Nation itself, towards the persecuted, the corruption, the injustice in the land, the blood being shed on camera. Ahhhhh!

God said, “If My people, not unbelievers, the ones called by My Name… if they humble themselves and pray, I will hear… and I will heal the land.”

But why is there no healing? Because His people have not humbled themselves. We have not cried. We have not travailed. We have not stood in the gap.

Most times, God’s people do not cry for help until the matter has “hooked the neck.” Until crisis enters our own house. Until trouble knocks our own door. But sisters, we must not wait for that.

This is the urgent need of Nigeria: the mercies of God! Oh yes! The mercies in different colours, shapes, shades, forms.

Nigeria deserves judgment, yes. When innocent blood touches the ground, it cries. Abel’s blood, only one man, cried out for vengeance. What then of the millions killed unjustly in Nigeria? The unborn whose destinies were swallowed in the womb? The worshippers killed in churches? The travellers kidnapped? The homes burnt? The girls violated? The boys slaughtered?

If God were to judge strictly, who would stand?

But for the sake of His remnant in the land… for the sake of His daughters who still call upon Him… for the sake of His name…

We must cry for mercies.

This is why we are gathered today, sis.  To plead with the Father to invade our land with mercy. We are gatekeepers. We are womb-carriers. We are the ones who open the door for the King of Glory to come in.

Like Esther, we have come to the kingdom for such a time as this. And just as the scepter was extended to her, mercy will be extended to Nigeria if we will rise. In the Name of Jesus.

‘Lord Have Mercy On Us’ by Divine Hymns

Lord Have Mercy On Us,
Come And Heal Our Land.
Cleanse With Your Fire, Heal With Your Touch,
Humbly We Bow And Call Upon You Now.
Oh Lord, Have Mercy On Us,
Oh Lord, Have Mercy On Us.

Oh Lord, Have Mercy
Oh Lord, Have Mercy On Us.

The Church Needs Your Mercies, Lord!

When Jesus said He will build His Church and the gate of hell will not prevail against it, He stood upon the authority of the Maker of heaven and the earth. Jesus understood that the Body the Father wanted to build for Him was one that will keep the enemy defeated. After Jesus’s ascension, the Church has gone through many storms over the century and by the power of Jesus has stayed victorious. The devil has stayed defeated under the authority of Jesus! Glory!!!

But over time, particularly in recent times and in this generation, what is happening? Have you sat down to wonder? Have you asked yourself the same question? What’s happening? Why is the church become less and less authoritative? Why is the church not being effective? How has the sharp edge of the knife dulled this bad? Why does the camp of darkness no longer flee or tremble atthe sight of the Body of Christ? Why does the bride of Christ now look paralyzed and helpless? Why has the virus of darkness taken over where the light of Christ once shone ever brightly and darkness never could comprehend?

Well, if anything, we know this is not a problem with God! Oh yes, let’s get that out of the way. Now, if it is not God, then who?

Exactly! You got it! The church!

The Church that was meant to terrify darkness has now become the one terrified. The Church that was meant to carry fire has become comfortable with smoke. The Church that was meant to roar now whispers. The Church that was meant to stand in the gap now sits in entertainment. The Church that was meant to travail has settled for convenience. Sisters, let us be honest… we have dropped the mantle.

We have dropped the authority Jesus handed over.
We have abandoned the responsibility He placed on us.
We have neglected the watch-towers assigned to us.
We have left our gates unmanned.
We have forgotten who we are.

And because the Church forgot who she is, Nigeria is suffering for it. Darkness is not prevailing because it is powerful; darkness is prevailing because light has refused to shine. A candle that should stand on the mountain has been hidden under a bushel of comfort, selfishness, worldliness, and spiritual laziness.

darkness is prevailing because light has refused to shine.

Jesus said, “Ye are the light of the world… Ye are the salt of the earth.” But when salt loses its savor, of what use is it? It is thrown down and trampled upon. That is the spiritual posture of the Church today. Trampled upon by systems, by policies, by wickedness, by immorality, by corruption, by bloodshed.

Why?
Because the watchmen are sleeping.

Why?
Because the intercessors are tired.

Why?
Because the gatekeepers have abandoned their posts.

Why?
Because the women with wombs of travail have chosen comfort.

Why?
Because the ones called to cry out like Anna have become distracted by earthly matters.

Sisters, this is what is happening. This is why the Church looks dull, defeated, and directionless in the midst of national chaos. This is why the enemy roams freely.

The Church in Nigeria prays, yes. But we mainly pray for ourselves. We pray for marriage. We pray for jobs. We pray for visas. We pray for comfort. We pray for personal blessings. But who is praying for the glory of Christ in the land? Who is praying for the will of God to be done? Who is crying for the blood that is speaking vengeance over Nigeria? Who is holding the altar for the mercy of God?

We celebrate comfort in the West and forget that in the North, believers are being slaughtered. We sit in AC rooms and forget that some saints are praying inside forests. We enjoy church programs and forget that some churches cannot gather publicly without fear. We decorate our lives with blessings and forget to decorate the altar of intercession with tears.

This is why we are where we are.
This is why Nigeria is how she is.
This is why evil spreads without shame.
This is why injustice sits at the gate and no one challenges it.
This is why the camp of darkness is bold enough to roar.

But sisters, this is not the end of the story. Because if the Church recognizes her fault, and returns, and repents, and cries out again, mercy will fall.

If the Church, that same dull, weakened, distracted Church, if she humbles herself, mercy will silence judgment. If the Church stands in the gap, the heavens will open again. If the Church returns to her knees, Nigeria will return to life.

“If My people, which are called by My name…” Not if the unbelievers. Not if the politicians. Not if the systems. But My people.

We are the ones delaying the visitation. We are the ones slowing the healing. We are the ones who must cry.

And that is why God is calling us today. Because the mercy Nigeria needs will not fall from the sky. It will fall from the knees of the Church.

Shall we, dear sister, take some time to repent of our selfishness?

Let us bow our hearts before God and say:

“Father, we are sorry. We have been selfish. We have been blind. We have been quiet when we should have cried. We have been relaxed when we should have risen. We have been comfortable when we should have carried the burden.”

Let us repent for the times we saw evil flourishing and we said, “It is well,” even when it was not well at all.
Let us repent for the times we heard of killings, kidnappings, corruption, injustice, wickedness, and we turned away because it was not happening in our city.
Let us repent for the times we treated national issues like news headlines instead of priestly assignments.
Let us repent for the times we prayed more for visas than for revival.
Let us repent for the times we prayed more for blessings than for the mercy that our land desperately needs.
Let us repent for the times we forgot that we are watchmen, and allowed the walls to crumble around us.

Sisters, lift your voice and say:

“Lord, have mercy on me. Forgive my selfishness. Forgive my apathy. Forgive my comfort-seeking. Forgive my blindness. Forgive my silence. Forgive me for not standing in the gap. Forgive me for not crying out when Your Spirit nudged me. Lord, forgive me.”

Take your time. Let it come from your spirit. Let the tears come if they will. Let the weight sit on your heart. Let the Spirit of God break you open again.

We cannot cry for the land if we have not first cried for ourselves. We cannot ask for mercy on Nigeria if mercy has not first touched our own hearts.

Let us repent genuinely, sisters.

Take a moment to reflect on the verses below:

FATHER, FOR YOUR MERCIES WE PLEAD!

Psalm 122:6 AMP: “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May they prosper who love you [holy city]”.

2 Chronicles 7:14 KJV: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land”. We have a promise that if we pray, our land will be healed so we rest on this promise and pray believing that God cannot lie.

Psalm 138:2 KJV: “I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy loving-kindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name”.

There is Hope: The Story of Jerusalem

It is important that we, the church never lose hope, for if we do, Nigeria then is without hope. If Christ in us is the hope of glory (Col. 1:27), then Nigeria certainly will experience the rays of His glory through us. This is why we must keep fanning the ray of hope that Nigeria may be restored into the experience of new glorious beginnings.

A good example of a country that attained deliverance through Scriptures was Jerusalem. Jerusalem’s story should stir up our hearts in hope for deliverance and restoration. If God could do it before, it’ll be done again and again.

2 Chronicles 7:1,11,12,21,22 KJV: When Solomon had finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the Lord filled the temple. Thus Solomon finished the house of the Lord and the king’s house; and Solomon successfully accomplished all that came into his heart to make in the house of the Lord and in his own house. Then the Lord appeared to Solomon by night, and said to him: “I have heard your prayer, and have chosen this place for myself as a house of sacrifice. “And as for this house, which is exalted, everyone who passes by it will be astonished and say, ‘Why has the Lord done thus to this land and this house?’ Then they will answer, ‘Because they forsook the Lord God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and embraced other gods, and worshiped them and served them; therefore He has brought all this calamity on them”.

2 Kings 24:2-4 GNT: “The Lord sent armed bands of Babylonians, Syrians, Moabites, and Ammonites against Jehoiakim to destroy Judah, as the Lord had said through his servants the prophets that he would do. Surely at the commandment of the Lord came this upon Judah, to remove them out of his sight, for the sins of Manasseh, according to all that he did; And also for the innocent blood that he shed: for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood; which the Lord would not pardon”.

Jerusalem was built by Solomon as a very glamorous temple, the presence of the Lord filled that temple, just like Nigeria. It was never a terrible country, it used to be a wonderful country, it used to be a hub of revival, but what has happened? Something has gone wrong somewhere and so we must cry to God to make right what has gone wrong.

The wickedness and sins of most of the kings who reigned in these two books were just too much (Read through the Kings 1 and 2), just like in Nigeria, until they were led into captivity. Much innocent blood has been shed, souls are crying to the Lord, how can our land prosper?

But we have a sure word of prophecy and promise, 2 Chronicles 7:14 KJV: If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land”. We have the sure promise from the Lord and we do not fight as those who beat the air, we will plead the Lord’s mercy and help and Nigeria will be restored”.

A man arises to stand in gap and pray

Nehemiah 1:3,4 KJV: “They said to me, “Things are not going well for those who returned to the province of Judah. They are in great trouble and disgrace (Nigeria is becoming despised by Nations of the world, travel advisories advice citizens of other countries not to visit Nigeria because of lack of safety and terrorism). The wall of Jerusalem has been torn down, and the gates have been destroyed by fire. When I heard this, I sat down and wept. In fact, for days I mourned, fasted, and prayed to the God of heaven”

‘Oh may we arise and cry, mourning with fasting for days just for the restoration of the walls of Nigeria.’

Nehemiah 2:11-13 KJV: “So I arrived in Jerusalem. Three days later, I slipped out during the night, taking only a few others with me. I had not told anyone about the plans God had put in my heart for Jerusalem. We took no pack animals with us except the donkey I was riding. After dark, I went out through the Valley Gate, past the Jackal’s Well, and over to the Dung Gate to inspect the broken walls and burned gates”.

Nehemiah 4:7 KJV: “But when Sanballat and Tobiah and the Arabs, Ammonites, and Ashdodites heard that the work was going ahead and that the gaps in the wall of Jerusalem were being repaired, they were furious. They all made plans to come and fight against Jerusalem and throw us into confusion. But we prayed to our God and guarded the city day and night to protect ourselves”.

Nehemiah 7:1,2 KJV: “After the wall was finished and I had set up the doors in the gates, the gatekeepers, singers, and Levites were appointed. I gave the responsibility of governing Jerusalem to my brother Hanani, along with Hananiah, the commander of the fortress, for he was a faithful man who feared God more than most”.

We cannot be oblivious to the ruins happening in Nigeria, we need to understand what the problems are and where specifically needs repairs before we can take actions. This will come through a deep revelation by the spirit which we need to plead for in prayers. When the specific problems were detected, Nehemiah summoned the people and they began to build (Nehemiah 3-6), we build by tarrying in prayers until we see the structures that should be held, come up, we tarry until we see the gates of protection we want for citizens become erected, we tarry till Nigeria is transformed.

It is not a one day/time prayer, we have to tarry till the walls of Nigeria are completely erected. But, there will be adversaries for sure. No matter the forces of opposition which may be fear, doubt, pain or whatever the enemy will bring to silence our intercession, we have to guard our hearts and spirits to continue till we prevail.

My heart bleeds at the governance and leadership of Nigeria, we need a faithful man who fears God above anything else, because even if we pray for anything else, that’s one deep ruin that needs to be rebuilder and we will tarry till this godly governance is established in our land.

FATHER, FOR YOUR MERCIES WE PLEAD!

A New Jerusalem

Revelation 21:1-3 KJV: “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them”.

Amen!!!

God’s home shall be Nigeria and his presence will grace every atmosphere of the country, that people will walk on roads and feel the shift, Amen! As we look at the end of Jerusalem, God’s promise is fulfilled and his presence is manifested. She didn’t end up in ruins or as an abandoned project, and I know Nigeria shall not end in ruins but will emerge glorious and victorious, that no one would ever be able to associate the current happenings with it except they are told as history.

Let Us Pray

As we pray, I urge us to let our hearts be turned fully onto Jesus as we cry out to him for an intervention in our country, Nigeria. Take this song as passionately as possible before we commence the prayers.

Heal Our Land (Song for the National Day of Prayer) by Michael Card

Forgive oh Lord and heal our land
And give us eyes to seek Your face and hearts to understand
That You alone make all things new
And the blessings of the land we love are really gifts from You

If My people will humbly pray
And seek My face and turn away from all their wicked ways
Then I will hear them and move My hand
And freely then will I forgive, and I will heal their land

Unite our hearts (unite our hearts) in one accord (in one accord)
And make us hungry for Your peace and burdened for the poor
And grant us hope (and grant us hope) that we might see (we might see)
A future for the land we love our life our liberty

If My people will humbly pray
And seek My face and turn away from all their wicked ways
Then I will hear them and move My hand
And freely then will I forgive, and I will heal their land

If My people will humbly pray
And seek My face and turn away from all their wicked ways
Then I will hear them and move My hand
And freely then will I forgive, and I will heal their land

And I will heal their land
Heal their land
Heal their land
Heal their land
Heal their land
Heal their land

FATHER, FOR YOUR MERCIES WE PLEAD!

Nehemiah 1

Let’s come with a heart of gratitude and hallow the name of God. Vs 5: “Then I said, “O Lord, God of heaven, the great and awesome God who keeps his covenant of unfailing love with those who love him and obey his commands”.

  • Lord we thank You for the grace to know You. Thank You for being an awesome Father and Lover. We thank You Lord, we bless Your name.
  • Thank You, Jesus for building Your Church in Nigeria and for making us a member of Your Body.
  • Thank You for Your life which is the light of men and darkness can never comprehend it.
  • Thank You Lord because we know that for this time and season in Nigeria, You are in control. You have never stopped being in charge no matter how much the enemy tries.
  • Thank You Father because we are certain that in this present time and season, it is another opportunity for You to glorify Yourself and exalt Your name in Nigeria.
  • We praise You Maker of Nigeria for You have made Nigeria and the Church in her borders for Your pleasure.
  • Oh Lord, Be Magnified in Nigeria! Be exalted! Be glorified! Be lifted high in our praises this day.

(Take a Moment to praise the Name of the Lord).

Vs 6.7: “Listen to my prayer! Look down and see me praying night and day for your people Israel. I confess that we have sinned against you. Yes, even my own family and I have sinned! We have sinned terribly by not obeying the commands, decrees, and regulations that you gave us through your servant Moses.”

  • Lord Jesus, please forgive your Church for every negligent attitude we have had towards upholding Your name, righteousness, and glory in Nigeria.
  • Father, please forgive us for being concerned with many other things but consistently defeating the gate of hell.
  • Lord, look upon Nigeria with mercy for we have sinned as a nation, we have gone astray, we have failed You but Lord please have mercy on us, please Lord, have mercy.
  • Keep pleading for His mercy over the great horrible wickedness in our land asking Him to please forgive us and show mercy.

Vs 8-10: “Please remember what you told your servant Moses: ‘If you are unfaithful to me, I will scatter you among the nations. But if you return to me and obey my commands and live by them, then even if you are exiled to the ends of the earth, I will bring you back to the place I have chosen for my name to be honored. The people you rescued by your great power and strong hand are your servants”.

  • Can we plead with the Lord to remember His word, that if we cry to Him for mercy and repent, He will rescue our land.
  • Ask the Lord to please intervene in Nigeria and wrought a great deliverance in the Land of Nigeria.
  • Let’s plead to the Lord to hear our cry today, oh may His loving-kindness grace us even as we cry out to to Him for Nigeria.
  • Oh Lord, please visit us in your mercy, visit and heal our nation in your love, show your compassion on us.
  • Let’s begin to ask the Lord to put kindness in the heart of Nations, helpers, deliverers for Nigeria, those that have one authority or the other that can cause a change, that the Lord stirs up their heart to do this good thing.
  • Ask that great mercy be shown upon our nation. Ask the Father to behold our helplessness in His mercy and look upon our humble estate as His daughters.
  • Ask that the Lord will shut the mouth of those who perpetuate evil, spew evil from their mouth over Nigeria. Pray that their mouths be silenced in Jesus name.
  • Pray that the righteousness of God will take root in Nigeria again, afresh.
  • Ask that the fear of God will begin to pervade the government at all levels in Nigeria as well as among those at the grassroot in Jesus name.
  • Pray that a revival from the Lord, directly from His Presence will begin to sweep through all parts of Nigeria that the mighty power of the Lord will confound the enemy of the nation, Nigeria.
  • Plead the Blood of Jesus over this nation. Ask that His Blood will begin to speak better things over Nigeria.
  • Pray that every evil agenda, plot that has been schemed in darkness over Nigeria, the Church in Nigeria, and over all of God’s people, that the perpetuators become the actual victims of their evil in the name of Jesus.
  • Ask the Father to please give us a great freedom that all the earth may fear you.
  • Declare His peace over Nigeria from the North to the South, the East, West, and central parts of Nigeria.
  • Declare that the name of the Lord Jesus is once again revered all over Nigeria.
  • Declare that it is well with Nigeria, come what may.
  • Declare that Christ is exalted and glorified in the midst of the current chaos in Nigeria.
  • Speak Peace over Nigeria in Jesus name!

Let the Holy Spirit take charge of you as He guides you on more prayers. Pray and pray with the whole of your heart for Nigeria. Pray because the Lord has planted you in this Nation. Pray for the Lord’s mercy for all those who are dear to your heart. Pray that the Holy Spirit will brood over this nation.

In heavenly armour we’ll enter the land
The battle belongs to the Lord
No weapon that’s fashioned against us shall stand
The battle belongs to the Lord

We sing glory, honor
Power and strength to the Lord
We sing glory, honor
Power and strength to the Lord

When the power of darkness comes in like a flood
The battle belongs to the Lord
He’s raised up a standard, the power of His blood
The battle belongs to the Lord

We sing glory, honor
Power and strength to the lord
We sing glory, honor
Power and strength to the lord
To the Lord

When your enemy presses in hard do not fear
The battle belongs to the Lord
Take courage my friend, your redemption is near
The battle belongs to the Lord

And we sing glory, honor
Power and strength to the lord
We sing glory, honor
Power and strength to the lord

And we sing glory, honor
Power and strength to the lord
We sing glory, honor
Power and strength to the lord
