I will wait for You to move
For Your mighty hand to save
When the trouble water rise
You are my hiding place
You are my hiding place
You walls are salvation
Your gates are praise
My Deliverer
My Deliverer
My Deliverer

Who is like You mighty God
Who can take me from Your hand
As I walk with You in freedom

It’s Day 8 of our Juicy July Prayer Programme and today, God is set to do things anew in our lives. Amen?
I pray that your testimony will not elude you in the mighty Name of Jesus. Amen
Today, we are knocking on Heaven’s Door for DELIVERANCE FROM BESETTING SINS.
We all struggle or have struggled with besetting sins. They’re like a piece of furniture that you keep hitting your shin against. At some point, you would think you would learn to avoid it. But when it’s been a while and you aren’t thinking about it–Whack! You do it again.
Hebrew 12:1 says: “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and THE SIN WHICH SO EASILY BESET US and let us run with patience the race that is set before us”
The Christian journey is not a hundred meter race: it is a marathon. In running the race, we are severely confronted by the challenge of sins. Satan is behind this challenge and our readiness to destroy every unfruitful works of darkness will determine how far we go with God.
One of the sins that we are confronted with, is what the Bible calls “the sin which so easily beset us”. This is called besetting sin. A besetting sin is an overtaking, overpowering and over-ruling sin. It is a sin that comes daily to us to humble and humiliate us. It is a sin that is called “a personal weakness” or “a weak point” in the lives of individuals.
For some Christians, it is lust; for others, it is envy; others have issues with money, pride, anger, gossip, lies, flattery among others.
Moses was a wonderful man of God but his besetting sin, that almost cost him heaven, was anger.
David conquered all his enemies, except himself: he was a lustful Christian that even killed to cover up his lust.
Job was holy and was even a pride of God but he had issues with fears!
Abraham told lies and his children: Isaac and Jacob shared the same besetting sin with him.
Peter was a coward who denied Jesus because of threats around him.
Solomon was wise about all things except women.
Gehazi appreciated gold more than God and he attracted leprosy to himself and his generation.
All these are some accounts of besetting sins and the Lord will not make you a victim of this sin in Jesus’ name.
Is there a way out of this sin? Yes, there is.
The Bible says in Romans 6 vs 14 that, “for sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under law, but under grace.”
Also, the Word of the Lord says in Romans 8 vs 2 that, ” for the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death”.
All these are powerful divine assurances that Christ has delivered us from the bondage of sin. All that is left is for us to appropriate these truths into our lives by invoking the power of God over our lives.
We also have a need for vigilance. The Holy spirit is alive and He is always pointing to areas where we need vigilance. He convicts us all the time of our sins and offers a way of escape out of them. God loves us passionately but hates our sins deeply.
*Repentance is the best deliverance and vigilance is the best defence for any spirit- filled Christian.*
*Besetting sins delay or even destroy testimonies- they oppose our breakthrough in the second heavens, they allow Satan and his hosts passage into our lives and make us slaves, rather than the “royal priesthood” that God made us.*
Look at the lyrics of this popular old song below. It is powerful! It is powerful! It is deep!
As a child I foolishly turned God away
Not knowing the heartache a sinner must face
But God in His goodness has let me return
To share with His children this lesson I’ve learned
Sin will take you farther than you wanna go
Slowly but wholly taking control
Sin will leave you longer than you wanna stay
Sin will cost you far more than you wanna pay
So with pleasure and promises sin took control
Leaving me dying with nothing to show
Gone were my loved ones and my dearest friends
Only a Savior could love me again
Sin will take you farther than you wanna go
Slowly but wholly taking control
Sin will leave you longer than you wanna stay
Sin will cost you far more than you wanna pay
Sin will cost you far more wanna pay
(Sing the song if you know. But look deeply into every single word of each stanza and the chorus. You will see the deadliness of sin! You will see how dirty and poisonous those sins you handle with levity are. Amen!)
*We deploy energy into fighting enemies but never fight ourselves. A man’s worst enemy is himself!*
Fight your fears, lusts, cravings, pride, anger, and other works of the flesh and the enemy will have nothing to fight in you. We dignify Satan too much and accuse him of what he knows nothing about.
God will empower us to overtake our weaknesses and manifest His strength in Jesus’ name. The name of Jesus, His blood, word and Spirit are enough for us to destroy the Jericho Walls of besetting sins.
LET’S QUICKLY LOOK AT OUR SECOND SONG BEFORE WE MOVE ON TO OUR CONFESSIONS AND PRAYERS. AMEN.
*This is titled ‘HAVE MERCY’ by Out of Eden*
Forgive me, Lord, for I have sinned
I have strayed from your ways
I need to begin again
My ways have let me down
Won’t you please turn my life around?
I can’t make it on my own
I will do what you say, Lord, have your way
And hear my prayer this day
I need you, Lord, please hear my cry
Take this heart as your own
And make it clean inside
Wash me in your precious blood
Wrap me in your open arm of love
So, I know you’ve not given up
I will do what you say, Lord, have your way
And hear my prayer this day
Oh, have mercy, oh, have mercy
Lord, I need you, I am not giving up
I’m not letting go, not even getting off of my knees
‘Til I hear a word from you
Be near me, Lord
I’ve turned from my wrongs
I am following you, won’t you speak?
Help me carry on
For just one word

Begin to God about it all. Tell God about those besetting sins.
Tell Him how much it has affected your life from shining. Confess every single sin to the Lord. He is ready to save and deliver you today.
Be it masturbation, pornography, fornication, anger, shouting, malice, worry, anxiety, depression, envy, jealousy, greed, covetousness, gluttony, indiscipline, talkativeness, stealing, critical spirit, pride, haughtiness, lies, alcoholism, drugs dealing, addictions…
WHATEVER!
Confess them all.
Let’s quickly have some prayerful declarations when you are done confessing.
_Lord Jesus, forgive me. I confess I have been offering myself over to sin, and now I am its slave. I renounce it; I renounce my sins. [Be very specific here. For example, “I renounce the ways I have presented my sexuality to sin;_
_I renounce my sexual sins. I present my sexuality to Jesus Christ. I sanctify my sexuality to Jesus Christ. I present the members of my body and my sexuality as instruments of righteousness. I renounce the ways I have presented my appetite and my desires to sin; I renounce my sins with pride._
_I present my (mention them) to Jesus Christ. I sanctify my body to Jesus Christ.”] I renounce every way I have given myself over to sin. I dedicate and I consecrate my life [and this specific area] once more to the rule of Jesus Christ, to be His and His alone. May your atoning Blood cover my sins and cleanse me. May Your holiness possess me totally and completely._
FOR WE HAVE PRAYED IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST, OUR LORD AND SAVIOUR.
You will also find it helpful to renounce the “sins of your fathers.” Often in these places of lasting bondage you will find that a father (or mother, or brother, or grandparent) struggled with the same issue. The scriptures present to us the reality that sin is often passed down within a family line, and the effects of those sins are also passed down generation to generation (see Exodus 20:5, 34:7, Leviticus 26:39-42, Nehemiah 9:2).
So, let’s do that now
_Father in the Name of Jesus, I also renounce the sins of my fathers here [or my mother, my grandmother…) I renounce their sins of [be specific, as in, “their rage, their sexual sins, their alcoholism.”] I utterly renounce and break off from the sins of my family line_
_I plead the Blood of Christ over those sins, so that they may not have a hold on me. I renounce them and break off from them utterly._
FOR WE HAVE ASKED IN THE MIGHTY NAME OF JESUS. AMEN!
Now, let us move!
We want to break the enemy’s hold on us through the presence of “agreements.” By this, I mean places in our own hearts that have made a deep agreement with a feeling, a thought, a sentence.
If you have struggled with something for years now, there are probably agreements along the lines of: “I’ll never get free of this,” “I am addicted,” “My life is such a mess!” “It’s too late,” and a host of others.
Those are agreements, and they serve as a kind of permission for the enemy to keep you in bondage. So you must break them. In addition to these, there are the agreements with the sin itself: “I am filled with rage,” “I am a drunk,” “I am hypersexual” “It’s my nature to be angry”
They can even “feel” biblical but, dear sisters, you do not want to be making agreements with your sin. You are dead to sin and alive to God. You are the dwelling place of Jesus Christ. You are forgiven and dearly loved. So you must break the agreements you’ve been making here, in this area. Some will be obvious to you; others require the Presence of the Holy Spirit to reveal them.
Let’s go!
_Spirit of God, search me, know me, reveal to me the agreements I have been making in this area. I renounce those agreements now. [Be very specific.]_
I renounce the agreement that [What is it? “I’ll never get free?” “Rage is just a part of me?” “It’s too late?”] I break these agreements in the name of my Lord Jesus Christ._
_I renounce them. I renounce every claim they have given the enemy in my life._
_Jesus, my Deliverer, come and break these strongholds. Set me free in this very place._
_I renounce the agreement that I am dirty and disgusting. I renounce every agreement with shame. I renounce the agreement that I can never be forgiven._
_Spirit, show me what to pray, reveal these agreements._
Bit by bit you are recovering parts of your heart. You are taking them back from when you gave them away. This erodes the claim that you gave the enemy in your heart. Yes, terrible things may have happened to us, but we are the ones who made these agreements, these resolutions, these vows, and we’re not going to see victory in that area until we renounce them.
We have such power in our tongues! Amazing, unquantifiable power!
God created the whole wide world in His omnipotence!
He created the water you drink, the dog you have, the land, the sun, the moon, the star with HIS WORD!
And we have the same power.
We call those things which be as though they were!!!
Oh my!
I will be honest—if you’ve given your heart over to something many times over, you’ve given it a good stronghold, and if it is also tangled up in issues of wounds and sin, it’s going to take some time to untangle and heal this, but it is worth the work.
Don’t just bury it. It’s worth going into those dark places and those murky waters and working through it. The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us of everything. Everything.
Renounce them with your mouth!
Open your mouth and go into those areas that besetting sins have dealt with you. Renounce your association with that habit, that attitude, that link, that statement, everything!
Anger, I renounce you!
Pride, I curse you!
I am not addicted!
I am not an angry person!
My mind is renewed ….
Having broken the agreements and renounced the sin, we often find that we have to be quite intentional in commanding the enemy to leave. “Submit therefore to God,” wrote James the brother of Jesus, “resist the devil and he will flee from you” (James 4:7).
Much of what we have been doing up to this point is submitting to God, bringing these specific issues under the rule of Jesus by renouncing the sins, breaking the agreements, sanctifying these places back to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
Now comes part two of this verse: RESIST!
SHALL WE?
_I bring the Blood of my Lord Jesus Christ right here, in this very place. I renounce every claim I gave the evil one to my life right here, in this very place._
_And I bring the Blood of Christ now against the strongholds and against the spirits operating here. [Sometimes you will need to be firm and specific: I bring the blood of Jesus against all spirits of addiction, of alcoholism, all spirits of rage, of pride, fornication, and so on]._
_I banish these enemies from my life now—from my body, my soul, and my spirit. “Resist the devil and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). I resist the devil here and now and I command these spirits to flee in the name of Jesus Christ my Lord._
Ask the Spirit to guide you. If you will stick with this and let the Holy Spirit guide you, you will be free indeed!
_Lord, forgive me for giving place in my heart to resentment, to lust, to anger, to alcohol. Forgive me for giving place in my life to resignation and self-reproach and shame, to fear and doubt and control._
_I renounce it now. Come, Jesus Christ, and take your rightful place in my heart and in my life here. Come and set me free here, in these very places. I plead your blood over these sins, and I break every hold I gave my enemy here, in the Name of Jesus Christ._
As you do this, you erode your enemy’s claims to keep you in bondage. By the way, your enemy is not going to like the fact that you are about to get free. He will try to discourage you from praying like this.
He will try to distract you (the phone will ring, you’ll suddenly be hungry, you’ll feel like doing it tomorrow). He’ll try to make you feel like, this is so stupid, I can’t believe I’m doing this out loud. He’s going to make you feel like this isn’t working or this isn’t going to work. Just push through all of that.
DECLARE THE FOLLOWING AGRESSIVELY:
*I bring the work of Jesus Christ once more against you [shame, rage, fear, sexual sin, resignation, etc.] and I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to go to hell in the mighty Name of Jesus.*
“It is for freedom that Christ has set you free” (Galatians 5:1).
*I claim my freedom now in the name of Jesus Christ. Jesus, I ask you to sanctify me through and through. May my whole spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 5:23–24). Sanctify me through and through, in this place, oh Lord God_
LET US ROUND THIS DECLARATION OFF BY GIVING YOU THE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE YOUR PERSONAL PRAYERS.
Sing this song:
God prepare me
A sanctuary
Pure and holy
Tried and true
With thanksgiving
I’ll be a living/ sanctuary for you.
*AFTERWARDS, SAY THE FOLLOWING PRAYERS AGRESSIVELY*

Spirit of wholeness, make me whole again in Jesus’ Name.
Lord, by your mercies, heal my fragmented soul in Jesus’ Name.

Thank You Lord for making me whole and complete in Jesus’ Name.
*CONTINUE TO PRAY AS THE SPIRIT OF GOD HELPS YOU. AFTERWARDS, BURY YOURSELF IN THE LYRICS AND TUNE OF THE SONG BELOW. IT IS TITLED ‘FORGIVEN’ BY SANCTUS. GOD BLESS YOU, FAM!*
FORGIVEN BY SANCTUS
Well the past is playing with my head
And failure knocks me down again
I’m reminded of the wrong
That I have said and done
And that devil just wont let me forget
In this life
I know what I’ve been
But here in your arms
I know what I am
I’m forgiven
I’m forgiven
And I don’t have to carry
The weight of who I’ve been
‘Cause I’m forgiven
My mistakes are running through my mind
And I’ll relive my days, in the middle of the night
When I wrestle with my pain, struggle with my pride
Sometimes I feel alone, and I cry
When I don’t fit in and I don’t feel like I belong anywhere
When I don’t measure up to much in this life
Oh, I’m a treasure in the arms of Christ ’cause
‘Cause I’m forgiven
I’m forgiven
And I don’t have to carry
The weight of who I’ve been
‘Cause I’m forgiven.
