TOPIC: DOUBLE FOR YOUR TROUBLES

TEXT: ISAIAH 61:7; JOEL 2:25-26; JOB 42:10

BIBLE STUDY: 1 CORINTHIANS 12

PRAYER

Praise the Lord for the testimonies. Ask the Lord to take all the glory for them. Ask that the Lord will glorify Himself the more in the lives of the testifiers. And that the Lord will give everyone heartily participating in the Juicy July Prayer programme great testimonies to the glory of His Name. Ask for your own testimonies also.

 

DOUBLE FOR YOUR TROUBLES

In Isaiah 61:7, the Lord said “For your shame ye shall have double; and for confusion they shall rejoice in their portion: therefore in their land they shall possess the double: everlasting joy shall be unto them”.

Isaiah in our text was talking to the children of Israel. They disobeyed God severally and worshiped foreign gods, which of course at regular intervals led them to being taken captives into exile. However, a time came like today that God decided to intervene in their situations and of course to give them double for their trouble. 

The phrase “double for my troubles” means receiving blessings or rewards that are twice as much as the suffering, difficulties, or losses one has endured. 

Have you ever gone through a season when you are being attacked left and right, from the front and the back and you feel like maybe God has completely forgotten about you? 

That is the season I am talking about! 

 

It can range from small to medium to big troubles but whatever the case may be, trouble is trouble! 

 

And for whatever measure of trouble you are facing, the Lord says he will give you double for it! 

 

For instance, Sarah had suffered a lot of heartaches from men. The last man was literally about to get married to her but walked out on her one week before the wedding. It was so shameful. She cried to the Lord and sought His face. She asked for double for her trouble and told God she was not leaving without His blessings. A year later, Sarah was married to Mark, a wonderful man of God who cherished the Lord deeply and loved her heartily. Not only did she find the love of her life, but they were also blessed with a beautiful baby soon after. The pain she had endured felt like a distant memory, replaced by overwhelming joy and fulfillment.

 

Also, Maria and her husband had been trying to have a baby for years. Each negative test felt like a stab in the heart, and their home felt emptier with every passing month. They fasted and prayed, crying out to God for a miracle. Just when they were on the brink of giving up, Maria found out she was pregnant. The joy was indescribable. When they learned they were having twins, it felt like God had truly given them double for their trouble. Their home was soon filled with the giggles and cries of their two precious babies.

 

That is it, sis! Double for your trouble! 

 

Lydia was tired of feeling isolated and mistreated. She had been hurt by people she thought were friends and felt disrespected and alone. She prayed fervently for real, faithful friends and favor in her life. Slowly but surely, things began to change. New friends who truly valued her came into her life, and she started getting recognized at work for her hard work. Where she once felt alone and undervalued, she now felt surrounded by love and respect. Her life overflowed with the kind of relationships and recognition she had always longed for.

 

God gave her double for all her troubles! 

 

What about John and his family? They were in a desperate situation. They hadn’t been able to pay rent for months, and the landlord was hard on them. He insulted them saying ‘Oh, I thought your Bible says you shouldn’t owe any man anything!’. He took them to court and was even about dragging them on TV shows where debtors are called out and insulted. It was at this point that John and his family cries out in pain to the Lord! They prayed earnestly, seeking help from God. Out of the blue, John got a job offer that not only paid well but also had great benefits including a huge housing allowance! They were able to pay off their back rent and even save up for a new home. Their financial stress turned into financial stability. Oh amazing! 

 

What about Emma and David’s marriage? Oh, it was like a dilapidated building, falling terribly apart. They argued all the time, and it seemed like divorce was inevitable. In a last-ditch effort, they turned to serious prayer. They asked God to save their marriage and give them double for their trouble. Through hard work and faith, they began to reconnect. Their love grew stronger, their communication improved, and their home was filled with peace again. Their marriage was not only saved but became proof to God’s power to restore and bless beyond what they imagined. They even began to rescue other falling marriages also. 

 

And Mimi’s spiritual life? It felt like a yo-yo. One minute she was on fire for God, and the next she felt distant and dry. Frustrated, she committed to a routine of prayer, Bible study, and fellowship. She asked God for stability and a deeper connection. Before you know it, her spiritual life began to stabilize and flourish. She felt closer to God than ever before, with a sense of purpose and peace that was unshakeable. Where she once felt unstable and distant, she now felt strong and deeply connected, experiencing double the spiritual strength she had prayed for!

 

That is what we are talking about, sis. 

 

Our text today marvelously says you will receive double for your trouble. For example, if the devil has given you one trouble, then for that one trouble you can expect a double portion blessing!

 

And if trouble has caused you to experience shame and embarrassment, God’s promise to you is this: “Instead of your shame you shall have double honor.” God wants to give you a DOUBLE PORTION blessing for every trouble you go through! 

 

Hallelujah! 

 

THE SOURCE OF TROUBLES

Who likes being sick, not having a child, being the only unmarried person among their colleagues and friends? Who looks forward to losing someone dear to them, having a stack of unsold products in their shop, not having money, or being demoted or sacked from work?  

No one! I can assuredly tell! But these times do come! 

Troubles can come as a result of:

• Satanic Attacks
• Personal negligence and carelessness
• Sin etc. 

 

Dear sisters, the truth of the matter is that one can’t live a trouble-free life. Even if you are God’s best friend, you won’t be exempted from troubles. 

Jesus didn’t mince words when He said “In this world you will have trouble” (John 16:33). It wasn’t the Pharisees, Saduceess, prostitutes, murderers or those with no heart and conscience Jesus made that statement to. It was to His disciples and invariably to you and I.

The reassuring news is that if we remain steadfast on the Lord and on His Word, after the darkness, the sun will shine; after the storm comes calm;  after you have lost opportunities and blessings, God will give you double for all your troubles. The double portion blessing is what God uses to comfort, settle and restore His children after they have been through hard and trying times. You shall partake of that double portion blessing this season in Jesus Name. 

The moment you respond to God in faith, He gets involved in your restoration! And He does not restore to you the same amount that you have lost. You always get more than before, if not in quantity, then in quality. You will be at a higher place than before. You will be healthier, wiser, financially stronger, and more at peace.  Amen?

JOB, THE MAN OF TROUBLES

When Job, one of the wealthiest men in his own days lost everything, no one thought he would make it again. Job had nothing to fall back on. No savings, no collateral to present to anyone to get a loan to revive his business or start a fresh one. This man was left high and dry. But he had one thing going for him – the voice of prayer.  

Not even his well-built mansion being struck down by a tornado or the loss of all his children in one day was able to silence that voice of prayer. And it was that voice of prayer that brought him out of the mess he was in; that turned things around for his good, and made him a partaker of the double portion blessing. Job 42:10 tells us that “After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord made him prosperous again and gave him twice as much as he had before”.

From 7,000 sheep to 14,000. 

3,000 camels to 6,000 camels. 

500 yokes of oxen to 1,000 yoke of oxen and 500 female donkeys to 1,000 female donkeys. 

And for the children he lost, God restored them in terms of quality. His daughters were the fairest in all the land (Job 1:2-3, 13-19, 42:12-15).

That is our God for you, sisters! 

That is what receiving double for our troubles means! 

Think about this for a minute. If Job, who was not under the new covenant, could be blessed with double for his troubles, how much more we who are under the new covenant?

And at times God will not only restore to you double but even more. Remember, He is El-Shaddai, the God who is more than enough. So, it’s His nature to do so much more.  

In Isaiah 61: 7 God promises that “Instead of their shame my people will receive a double portion and instead of disgrace they will rejoice in their inheritance, and so they will inherit a double portion in their land, and everlasting joy will be theirs”. 

God doesn’t want any of us to end up in shame. We are not destined for shame but for glory. Like Hannah, there will be times when people will mock you because you don’t have something or because you are at a particular level in life (1 Samuel 1:6-7). But God will not allow your mockers have the final say or last word in your life. Amen??? 

Peninnah thought Hannah would never have a child, but God surprised her. God will give you a double portion blessing that will take people by surprise but you must remain in the place of prayer. 

Hannah did not allow the taunts and insults of Peninnah to silence her voice of prayer. She stayed in the place of prayer and God doubled and multiplied her joy by blessing her with not just one but so many other children (1 Samuel 2:21).

God promises double compensation for past and present sufferings but you have to keep the flame of hope burning while going through challenging times. 

Zechariah 9:12 says “Return to your fortress, O prisoners of hope; even now I announce that I will restore twice as much to you”. 

The double portion blessing comes to prisoners of hope; to those who against all odds never give up but continue to put their hope in God. 

Don’t allow recession or any problem or situation make you lose hope. When your hope is in God, even in the midst of famine you will have plenty and be satisfied, even if there are no jobs, God will CREATE one for you. Keep the spark of hope alive. Hold firmly to the God that never fails and God will surely still every storm in your life and give you double joy and honor for all your troubles.

ROUNDING OFF: 

Job 42:10 (KJV): And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.

Job 42:11-12 (KJV): Then came there unto him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and did eat bread with him in his house: and they bemoaned him, and comforted him over all the evil that the LORD had brought upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money, and every one an earring of gold.

12 So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses.

Have you been looking and seeking the Lord for a breakthrough in your life? 

Has something been eating at your spirit all week, month, year long? 

You have tried to find comfort in every one; you have sought advice from everyone; but no answer has been forthcoming? 

Has the Lord had you in waiting mode?

Has He had you in transition?

Today is the 30th day in July 2024. The second to the last day of the #madebattlefit prayer. Quote me now, dear, sis! 

THE LORD IS ABOUT TO OPEN THE WINDOWS OF HEAVEN AND POUR OUT BLESSINGS UPON YOU THAT YOU WILL NOT HAVE ROOM ENOUGH TO RECEIVE IT! 

 

Amen???

You write it down! It shall happen! It will! 

What have you lost in your troubles? That is not your end. The loss is not final. God is the God of double restoration. You will not only overtake and recover all that you have lost, but God will also give you double blessings that will compensate for all the troubles you have experienced. 

He will give you blessings that will make you forget the pains of past troubles and you will be fruitful once more. 

“Joseph named his firstborn Manasseh and said, ‘It is because God has made me forget all my trouble and all my father’s household.’ 

The second son he named Ephraim and said, ‘It is because God has made me fruitful in the land of my suffering’” (Genesis 41:51-52 New International Version).

Hallelujah! 

Get ready to give yourself a new name. Haha, your story is changing! Hallelujah! 

 

PRAYER TIME

WORSHIP

Let us take some quality time to worship the Lord for His Word that we have just gone through. Worship the Lord for who He is. Give Him all the glory for How great He is. Only He could have turned a small grapevine into something so high, great and so deep.

Give Him glory because all things in Heaven and on earth are His and to Him be power to make anyone prosper. Adore Him for His goodness and mercies over your life.

Thank God for His Word that He has expounded to us. Give God the glory for the opportunity to wait on Him in prayers. Adore Him because He is set to do in your life things that are beyond the ordinary.

SPIRITUAL SANITATION

Begin to sanitize your life right now. Rid your life of every sins and iniquities with the Blood of Jesus. The Lord does not hear the prayers coming from the mouth of a sinner, but if such confesses and forsakes the sins, the Lord will have mercy, hear and forgive.

 

ATMOSPHERIC SANITATION

Now, take charge of your environment. Begin to cover where you are now with the Blood of Jesus. Cover yourself with the fire of the Holy Ghost.

 

LET US PRAY

Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your promise of double blessings for every trouble I have faced. I worship You for Your faithfulness and steadfast love. (Isaiah 61:7)

Lord, I declare that for every pain and shame I have endured, I will receive a double portion of Your blessings. I claim Your promise of double honor for my troubles. (Isaiah 61:7)

Father, restore everything I have lost. Turn my mourning into dancing and give me everlasting joy. I trust You to replace every sorrow with double joy. (Psalm 30:11, Isaiah 61:7)

Lord, intervene in my situation as You did for the children of Israel. Where there has been confusion and shame, bring clarity and honor. (Isaiah 61:7)

Almighty God, grant me breakthrough in every area of my life where I have experienced setbacks. Let Your favor and blessings overflow. (Deuteronomy 28:2)

Jehovah Rapha, heal every area of my life that has been broken by troubles. Bring wholeness and health, and let me experience Your miraculous power. (Jeremiah 30:17)

Father, for every financial trouble I have faced, bless me with double prosperity. Open the windows of heaven and pour out Your abundant blessings. (Malachi 3:10)

Lord, restore relationships that have been strained or broken. Bring reconciliation and peace. Let love and unity flourish in my life. (Joel 2:25)

God, strengthen my spiritual life. Let me grow deeper in my relationship with You and experience a double portion of Your presence and power. (Ephesians 3:16-19)

Almighty Defender, protect me from every attack of the enemy. Turn every plan of the adversary into a stepping stone for double blessings. (Isaiah 54:17)

Lord, guide me in every decision I make. Let Your wisdom lead me to paths of double honor and success. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Father, I declare that I will be fruitful in every area of my life. Multiply my efforts and bless me with double productivity and success. (Genesis 41:52)

Lord, where I have faced disappointments, replace them with divine appointments. Let every setback become a setup for double blessings. (Romans 8:28)

God, surround me with Your favor as a shield. Let doors of opportunity open for me and bring double honor where there has been shame. (Psalm 5:12)

Heavenly Father, let my journey be filled with joy. For every hardship, let there be double the happiness and fulfillment. (John 16:24)

Lord, give me strength to endure every trial. Let me emerge stronger, with a double portion of faith and perseverance. (James 1:2-4)

Father, fill my life with testimonies of Your goodness. Let my story be one of triumph and double blessings for every trouble I have faced. (Revelation 12:11)

Lord, replace every storm in my life with Your peace. Let Your calmness reign and bring double serenity to my heart and mind. (Philippians 4:7)

Father, let Your glory be revealed in my life through the double portion blessings. May my life be a testimony of Your greatness and faithfulness. (Isaiah 60:1)
