The Power of Being Specific in Prayer

Some of us have prayed for years and feel like nothing’s shifted. You were there during Juicy July 2020. You were present in 2022. You even tried to press in last year. But deep inside, you’re wondering, “Why hasn’t anything changed?”

Sis, could it be that you’ve not been specific?

Let me ask you, sis, what exactly do you want from the Lord?

When blind Bartimaeus screamed for Jesus, Jesus didn’t assume. He stopped and asked him, “What do you want Me to do for you?”

Jesus, the all-knowing One, asking a blind man that question. Why? Because specificity matters in the kingdom.

Many Pray, A Few Are Clear

We say “Lord bless me,” but what does that even mean?

Bless you with what? How? When? Why?

We say “Lord, I want to marry.” Okay, beautiful. But how do you want God to be involved in that process? Do you want divine leading? Do you want a proposal this year?

Do you desire clarity, peace, and a mentor walking with you in the process?

Do you desire to know God’s Will and receive the patience to wait for it, come what may?

You see, dear sis, God doesn’t respond to confusion. He responds to faith. And faith is focused.

The Power of Being Specific in Prayer

What Does Specific Prayer Look Like?

Okay, let me paint this picture:

  • Instead of saying: “God, bless my business.”
Say: “Lord, I desire 20 consistent clients by December. Let 3 of them be international. Let this business generate at least ₦500,000 monthly to fund Kingdom projects and support my family, according to Your Will oh Lord.”

  • Instead of saying: “God, give me a husband.”
Say: “Father, I desire a man who walks with You daily, who is given to intercession, who is under godly mentorship, and who sees purpose in marriage. If it is Your time for me, orchestrate our meeting and confirm it clearly through peace, counsel, and Your Word in Jesus’ Name.”

Characteristics of Specific Prayers

  1. They are clear. No rambling. No confusion.

  2. They are detailed. You’re not scared to say what you really want.

  3. They are measurable. You’ll know when God answers.

  4. They are submitted to God’s will. You’re not bossing God around, you’re trusting His best.

  5. They carry eternal weight. You’re not just praying for things that perish, but for what pleases the Father.

Look at the Bible Examples:

  • Hannah: “Lord, give me a MALE child…” (1 Sam. 1:11)

  • Eliezer: “Let the one who offers water to me and my camels be the one…” (Gen. 24:14)

  • Jesus: “What do you want Me to do for you?” (Mark 10:51)

God responds when you open your mouth and pray with precision, sis! Have faith! Believe! Ask!

The Power of Being Specific in Prayer

Don’t Waste Juicy July 2025

This isn’t the time for vague, recycled prayer points but a time to kneel with intention.

Your head is already soaked with prayers. The BUD family’s prayer unit has been interceding for you since the beginning of the year. The heavens are heavy. If there is a BUD to pray, there is a God to answer.

Now the question is, what are you lifting up to Him?

Write your prayer points down. List them. Be clear. But don’t let your list be filled with only perishable things.

Marriage is good. Money is good. Children are good. But let your requests be sifted by eternity. Let them be things that when God answers, the kingdom will feel it.

And one more thing, don’t write anything you’re not ready to submit to His will. Let every prayer end with: “Not my will, but Yours be done.”
